ok, i have just about had it with this game. i finally get the ruddy tutorial to work, and now that i want to go back to a saved game, i get in, but the ruddy game freezes. it locks up, it hangs, however you put it, i am screwed. i close all my apps except systray and explorer, i have over 7 gigs on my HD, my computer is a compaq presario at 300 mHz, with a win 98 OS, i have a generic sound card, and a Rage Pro LT AGP at 2 mb. i close all my apps before going into the game, i have reduced the level of my graphics to near catastrophic levels, yet still this game freezes up. i hate to think i can never save a game for fear i won't be able to go back in to play it again. will someone, anyone PLEASE HELP ME?!!!!!!
 
well, it says 64 mb on the box, and i have heard that the game works with this much. i have 64, so am unsure why it stubbornly refuses to work.
 
I take it that you are using patch 1,08? The tutorial didnt save until the patch was installed.

I understand that you are not the only one with the save problem. The good news is that it only happens with the Tutorial.

I suggest that you forget that and start the Grand Campaign as Russia. You will learn a lot more from that and the save feature hasnt been 'tacked on'.

problem is, i did try the GC, and the same problem occurs. i played as England, and had set the clock as the lowest(1 min=1 month) would that decrease game speed? or increase it? as i still get the game freezing up, and seriuosly don't know what to do.

thanks for the ideas, i shall try them out, but to be honest, knowing how evil and nasty my computer is, i doubt it will work. what is even more aggravating was that last night, for a while, it did work. oh well, thanks
 
Well, i cannot even play the frickin campaign. seriously this if frickin tickin me off. i meet the ruddy requirements as set out on the box, it does not say i NEED 128 mb RAM, only that it is recommended. what the hell is wrong with my frickin computer or this game that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to play this game? i have re-installed my drivers, i have more than enough free space on my HD, sure, my computer is a celeron 300, but that should be ok. so what the hell is wrong with this frickin game?! why the hell can't i play it? there isn't anything i can find on the forums(tried searching, but nothing comes up for campaign crashes). i am ready to put a sledgehammer thru this computer, and take a jack hammer to this game, it is pissing me off that much(forgive my language, but i can only take so much crap before i say enough is enough!)
Can someone from the actual manufacturer respond, maybe tell me what i can do to actually be able to play this ruddy damn game?!

Could you have a lot of 'windows' programs running in the background that is eating up space. Press Control Alt Del at the same time and see how many programs are listed. You might want to try closing some (if it is the case) if this is the case there is a freeware program called 'EnditAll' that you can download, try znet.com or pcworld or just search. You run it and it ends all unnecessary programs so you can play then you reboot when done. FYI

thanks for the info, but i always only have systray and explorer running, and still, it refuses to let me play. the GC is not even playable, as is the tutorial. it freezes up no matter what i do(oh god, why must this be like what happened with AOK?) i seriously do no know what is wrong.
A question, when the 'strategy first ' thing is coming up on the screen, is it choppy for you guys? because it is for me. does that mean anything? i am almost ready to just throw the game on the 'gather dust till i buy a new computer 4 years down the road' pile.

another thing with the GC, i noticed recently that when i start, the screen shifts(the cities, towns, etc; shift, usually to the right a bit)i take it this is not supposed to happen?

any of the game designers able to help me? i can't use the 'contact us' button at the bottom, and don't see any place where i might find troubleshooting stuff.

ok, now i am getting ticked off. this games looks to be a great game, and the fact i cannot play it sucks big time. i try to play the GC, and nothing, it hangs, i try to play the tutorial, it hangs, i close every frickin program, and not a damn thing happens to improve play. could it be that the min specs are not really the min? like maybe i need a p3 500 or something to be able to actually play this damn game? for crying out loud, i can't find any support, i don't know how the heck i am supposed to fix this stupid machine(as i have a very sure suspiscion that it is my craptacular machine(god bless you Comapq for your fine, quality merchandise. i am sure no one ever has a problem with them) that is causing all the problems. )
oh well, another game bites the dust. fer crying out loud, why the hell does this have to be so hard.

fergive my ranting, but i am waaaaaaay past giving a flying damn about this game, this computer, and the crap i have to go through with it.
