I'm playing as Abyssinia. It gets to 1098, I've absorbed the Horn of Africa and the Caliphate comes calling. They spend about a year amassing an army three times the size of mine and then... put it on ships and sail around the Mediterranean. I have confirmed that it's doing this by watching the Caliph, who's leading the troops. They sail to around the Strait of Gibraltar, then come back to Alexandria, then march south to Aswan, then... head back north and do it again. Sometimes they vary the route a little and wipe out some rebels along the way, so it's not always exactly the same path. It's now April 1103, and if I just wait this out for a while I should be able to win the holy war by default.
Some things that might make this different from other times, when the Caliph clearly can find its way there:
- Nubia was to my north until about 1095. When they were conquered it was a vassal of the Caliph that did it - either Aswan or Sinai, I can't remember which. But that shouldn't affect what the Caliph can see, should it?
- Their holy war is only against the two provinces I have in Axum - the one I started the game with, and Aksum province. My plan was to drag out the fight as long as possible then let them have those two provinces in exchange for the ten-year truce.
- There was no crusade in place that I know of at the outset of the war, but one was since called on Acre, one of the Caliphate's provinces. (They were already going in circles before that though.)
Anyone else seen any pathfinding problems like this?
