I am a bit confused about the relationship between shipyards and settlers. I just reached naval techc. level 16, so I am assuming that my port in Andalusia has turned into a shipyard (it is now gold and I can build like 40 ships at a time there). However, unlike promised, I am not getting any extra settlers, instead getting 1 a year as before. Whats the deal with that? Am I supposed to actually BUILD a shipayard myself in another location to get the bonus, or what? Can anybody help, 1 settler a year is too little.

U get one settler a year if u own a shipyard. Anadalusia has a shipyard in 1492 so u get a settler a year as long as u control Andalusia. Any extra shipyards u control doesn't yield u any settlers.

The tech doesn't matter, the shipyard does. And there are a few in Europe way before the tech is available.

As the Field Marshal with new shield explained, the shipyard accounts for one settler per year. You *might* be entitled to more; the relevant factors are religion, stability level, and date of the game (the latter of which impacts "colonial dynamism", a hidden game mechanism for the historic colonial powers). See Huszics' FAQ for more info on this and many other questions. And, you are right, one settler/year is too few for Spain.

Spain gets more than 1 a year though (if he's playing Spain). Their colonial dynamism goes a long way.

Stability doesn't matter when it comes to settlers though. Religion and colonial dynamism (date) do very much matter however.

I get it, thanks. I had no idea that I had a shipyard in Andalusia since 1492. By the way, as Spain I USED TO get more than 1 colonist a year untill about 1610-1620. Then, all of a sudden my number of settlers got dramatically reduced. Maybe this is designed to reflect Spain's 17th century decline?
