Just a random thought, because it's so easy to just snipe bigger countries vassals when they're not allied.
But then, filling your alliance with just vassals is kinda annoying.

What do you think?

A liege lord is supposed to protect his vassals.

So, get them in your alliance and you will receive a call to arms when they are attacked.

If you do not get them in your alliance, but have other countries in that, that is your choice to neglect your vassal. After all you know that your vassal can't create an alliance of it's own, but only enter yours...
Pay the price to declare war on any attacker then without call to arms if your vassal is attacked.

That would be fine but oftentimes you don't even notice when your vassal gets attacked. I would settle for a pop-up in case of a player.

AI however you can snipe their vassals without any issue, feels bit too easy at times.
