Additional Information​

This save has gone through about a year in-game time after patch 1.2.5f1, so any effects from the patch was expected to settle. The two attached saves were saved a couple seconds apart, one saved before exiting the game, the 'pop crash' one saved after returning to game and unpausing.

If I load back into the original save during the same game session, the population doesn't drop.

I see a similar issue. It is repeated if the file is saved after the drop and then the game is restart a second drop will happen. Load the save paused, no drop. On resume, drop.

For those of you who are experiencing this population drop "bug" -- this is by design. Part of the under-the-hood simulation changes made for the 1.2.5f1 patch causes a sudden drop in population the first time you load into a save with the new patch. Don't worry, you only need to wait a few in-game months for the population to rebound.

To me it did it several times after some simulation being ran (3x 7-10 hours of simulation to get population back where it was around 790-810k people) and it keeps on removing 40-80k people. I managed to make a save right before the point where it does it again so the trigger happens some 5-10 seconds after loading. I have a previous save where i can play between 10 minutes and 2 hours without it happening AGAIN.

Long story short:
  • Seniors update>removed seniors = ton of uneployment (30%), found a lot of office, big office and comertial with only 5 workers, deleted, lowered uneployment by 15-20% to 6-10% eventualy
  • Homeless update > removed homeless and 40k initialy, ran simulation back to number of population i had, it removed 60k people then... ran simulation AGAIN to get to around 795k again but kept making saves close to each other and pushed population to 810k... and it deletes 60-80k people... AGAIN.

What's also noticable:
  • tourists? piling up at the edge of the city and waiting to get to their destinations and that destinations tourists go to are leisure, food, parks and schools (i guess hang around areas).
  • empty industry buldings despite small demand for more industry (that spawns once i destroy some of the empty industry buildings),
  • no info in the demand for commertial panel since the update from time to time if there's no need for it (amd need for it later on but spawning only low density ones and no high density on zoning them)
  • return (far less but can be found) of high density offices with 5 workers
  • this has been there since the start - no info on amount of workers working in warehouses
  • crime scene on outer connection (from the first few months of the game) - people reported it on flights i have it on harbor connection

Thank you for sharing this, very thorough.

I’ve noticed a few patterns on my city (initial population of 750K, now at about 620K and still falling):

- the healthcare coverage is zero at every startup lately after loading a save. Everything appears read on the networks in the Happiness infoview. Takes about 10 minutes for regular healthcare coverage to come back.

- in addition to the empty industrial and commercial zones you mentioned, I also have empty low density residential spread throughout the city. This is especially strange because even though the citizens complain about wanting “larger housing” and demand being zero for low density residential, I have a ton of citizens constantly leaving.

- a have a small number of high density office with 5/5 staffs, but I have a lot more high density commercial having that issue.

- I also have a persistent death wave that started around 6 months ago that no matter how many crematoriums I add, the number of recently deceased citizens just keeps going up.

Basically, my city is falling apart. It’s a bummer since I’ve been playing this city since last September. Hopefully they can get a fix in soon.
 
Game Update: After running the game yesterday and today:
  • Population pushed to 815k with often saves but it did reset again (-60k people) and we waited on stream that it climbs back up to 810k... Then:
  • Only low-density gas stations spawn (EU/NA styles); no other low-density types or high-density commercial zones appear.
  • Tourists: Still clustering on a corner.
  • Game deletes only around 8-10k people every time it gets back to 810-811k population and there are mini death waves happening around (with crematoriums having more stored than their capacity).
  • Commercial Issues: Something feels off, but hard to pinpoint. Numbers shown in info loom are crazy (280000% need?).
  • Car Trailer Glitch: A stuck car trailer caused a jam but deleting it didn’t prevent the population from resetting.
You can see the VOD from today (I wanted to push the population up a bit and switch to a different game, but then it kept on deleting so we let the sim run... on stream):
