To be completely off topic, isn't it interesting that cultures with no contact with each other can come up with the same idea? That Lavvo isn't just teepee-ish, its a freaking teepee, and the teepee is a freaking lavvo. Just goes to show you that any given idea has probably been tried before somewhere in the world :D

Those cultures had contacts, as both originated in Asia. The laps went West, the Native Americans went east to America through the straight of Berring. Of course this was at least 15,000/10,000 years BC, but then this kind of nomadic equipment is deemed by archelogists to date at least from 35,000 BC.

Which doesn't mean that ideas weren't sometimes experimented at approx. the same time all over the world (e.g. agriculture, fire..)
