I was just thinking how to avoid situations like Britain cutting a straight line through Qing, and I thought that if there's a way to make the AI account for the new border length many problems could be solved. Releasing buffer states, rational conquests, and treaty ports instead of direct conquest would be more frequent with the AI wishing to establish a shorter border. Also, border length could directly affect relations, with border incidents, by negatively modifying relations by an amount propotional to border length. Maybe friendly relationships could give AI tolerance of long ones like Canada-US though.
The exact number and modifiers would need tweaking of course, but I think it's a simple but effective solution to bordergore.
