Summary

Smallpox Mechanic Fires But Never Kills Anyone!

Description

I am playing the latest version on Ironman, no mods with Tours and Tournaments installed. The smallpox outbreak has fired several times without killing anyone -- the first few times I thought it was maybe a coincidence. The last time my physician was affected and was "At death's door" -- surely, I thought, now it will really start eliminating people. But then the event end message appeared that it was over, the bodies (none) had been disposed of, and my physician was back to normal. The mechanic fires but then does nothing and ends shortly thereafter with no casualties. It has happened a few times repeatedly in my last several playthroughs.

Steps to reproduce

Well, as it is a random event I am not sure how you would reproduce it specifically, but play a game and see if it works correctly.

I think its a balance issue, your physician and other positive health modifiers are probably that good that It won't have an outbreak

Thank you for the reply -- yes, I agree, it is a balance issue I think for sure. My main point is that smallpox is supposed to be a deadly disease, and the event is clearly meant to carry off at least a few members of your court (in past playthroughs, it has worked as intended). When it fires and then does nothing, it's clear something is wrong. It breaks the immersion.

It's a separate topic, somewhat, but in general I think the positive health modifiers in the game are just too strong. It is the Medieval era, yet barring accident, murder, or battlefield death, most of my characters live to reach 70 years old, and often as not the world is populated with older monarchs. I think a re-balance is in order in general (the health tree in general, the whole-of-body trait in particular) so that most characters lives end at around fifty-five to sixty rather than seventy. Sometimes it feels like I'm playing a medieval simulation of the American government.

The last time I had the event I just kicked out the infected character, so yeah... should be more dangerous this event

My rulers often go 70/80+, even with all the artifacts which boosts health too, I think with the amount of Health boosts and Health resitant available the negative health values should be higher
