How was the effectiveness of smoke barriers in WWII?
I hope there is a way to do smoke screens if it's historical, since they were a useful tool for assaults in the previous Wargame.
If they are available, will we have smoke barrage option?

I know the Germans used to throw up smoke for anti bomber defences in a strategic sense. Tanks certainly had smoke rounds. Don't think they could pop smoke so to speak though. Arty making smoke screens would be counter productive for allied air power. Not sure really. Infantry had smoke grenades too.

British fired smoke rounds with tanks to cover infantry (if I recall correctly, infantry tanks also had a significant portion of their ammo loadout dedicated to smoke), and the US use of WP that both produce smoke and are dangerous to both infantry and tanks was also common. Some tanks had smoke launchers. Artillery and mortars had smoke rounds. All in all, smoke should still be a useful tool.

Several tanks had smoke discharge's during the war so I don't think it's unreasonable to think they may make an appearance. As Ultimadeidiot mentioned smoke was used by many different parts of the military and they all had a use of some sort. It would also look really interesting on the battlefield ;).

Also, just because you can't see the typical looking smoke discharger bank on the side of a turret, that doesn't mean a tank is incapable of covering itself with smoke. For ex. the Shermans had a single-shot, pistol-type smoke launcher for the loader to use.

I may be dense... are you only a mod or do you have more insight than what you let out??? :)

Haha I'm the forum and support manager, ie, I work for Paradox (in Stockholm) and boss over the forum (as a platform) and the Support team. I'm not a developer and don't have any direct insight as to what's in the works ;). I just know what I'd like to see and is secretly hoping for :D!

Quick Question then... and then I will not get off topic:

'Has SD had a major impact on the Forums??? - a large increase of traffic??? and has that had an impact on the studio'

The British used smoke on epic scales, like 250,000 rounds to completely obscure a river crossing they made in Italy. We should see a lot more smoke than RD if the game is authentic.

smoke is ubiquitous in the Combat Mission and Close Combat games, both of which aim for the same general of realism that Steel Division seems to be aiming for so I'll bet it's a usable in game tactic

I have seen smoke shells even for tanks main guns there, so it could be implemented also in Steel Division.

You can find smoke usage details in every nation's field manuals of the time. And it was used quite extensively. Seen lots of actual real action pictures with smoke in use.
