Congratulations CO!

To get someone like me who gave up on games, and who haven't started up my broken gaming machine in 2 years, to splash out this amount of money on a brand new gaming machine, JUST FOR YOUR GAME, that is quite an achievement.

(Last time that happened, was in 2010, and in that case, it was for CitiesXL)

(Plus, I forgot how addictive Civilization V is. Hopefully, it will no longer crash in the end game like it used to on my 32 bit machine!)

Got mine a couple of months ago. It's an Asus too (NJ550) with the same specs- but touch screen, 16 gig ram, and SSD. Got mine at Amazon for $1200 (R 13,899).
Love it. Looks like we're both ready for C:SL(!)... if it ever comes out.
Congrats!

I guess you have to add at least R5000 for import duties or something, because you'll never find it for that price in South Africa :p

But yeah, I pretty comfortable with Asus. Apart from the fact that everybody here who has a gaming laptop seems to prefer Asus, the guy at the store said they had only one ASUS laptop giving issues last year, compared to 4 a week for MSI.

We've had 2 MSI gaming laptops in the family and they have both performed excellently, so it's a good brand to go with.

And yeah, prices are extremely different across the globe. Sometimes I just want to move to the US to buy cheap stuff :(

So... you bought a special rig for a game that you must have known at that time was pretty much a failure (CXL came out in 2009). Now you buy a new one for a game that hasn´t come out yet and still has to proof itself? I take it you preordered, too? You gambler, you. I like that.

As I remember it, CXL came out in 2010, but I might be wrong. I bought it straight away, and though there were many elements I didn't like about it - I was *way* too excited about the curved roads and street level views to let that interfere with my fun. The reason I eventually gave up on it is because my computer (A 32 bit machine) could not deal with large cities. I can assure you, I enjoyed it much longer than most people who were fooled into buying SC2013, which, thankfully, I never did.

Regarding this game, I think it has proven itself very much in the video's already. Like I said, it would be an achievement for them to disappoint me after what I've seen in the video's. That's the wonderful thing of having low(er) expectations, and not being pedantic about little details. I *will* enjoy this game, even if it turns out to have issues, just like I enjoyed Cities XL. I have no regrets about that ;)

Wow, this is so cool :D I feel like we're in the big league now!

Seeing this is a laptop-y thread, I just wanted some input here... would this laptop handle cities skylines "decently"?

I'm thinking of getting a laptop (mostly to program on) but I thought that maybe I could play cities skylines while on the move with this one :D

With my limited Swedish I'm afraid the CPU might not be powerful enough to run the game decently :(

I hate gaming laptops but I do know in some family's its a must and works out for them. I hope you enjoy it and it works out for ya!

If it doesn't, I'll view it as a valuable educational experience :p. Eitherway, I'm excited about the prospect of being able to play anywhere, and to be able to show off my cities to my friends.

congrats!:)

i'm also aiming to get a new rig for this game but i don't know what graphic card i want. 970/980/290x/2x290X or wait with the graphic card until summer and see how the new 390x will perform :) my current 6950 twin frozr should be able to at least run the game^^

Having no friends work in my favor ;) Nah since I was like 13ish maybe a bit younger and turning 30 this summer I use to get my mom or my friends get their mom or dad to drive each other to our places and have lan parties. I guess for us we got so use to desktop PC's it's a must. I mean the biggest thing with laptop vs desktop is you can get more performance and cost effective from desktop. But massive and I mean massive thing is you can actually throw your laptop into a small bag and go to your friends use it at school etc. Massive difference.

The equivalent gaming laptop when I was a little boy was this 33Mhz orange screen laptop that had an entire separate bag for the battery and connected via a cable LOL.

I feel old now!
