Couple of questions to help somebody at last getting some time to enjoy the game!

1) I find it hard to get a Bishop in my court and wind up excommunicated much of the time. I have tried to create a Bishopric but that person does not appear to be available to be made Bishop. Any advice?

2) Courtiers are either constantly asking for money or leaving my court for other courts, what might be the issue here?

Thanks!!

1) Give children in your court a church eduction as much as possible. Since only people with that education can become a diocese bishop.

If you don't have a diocese bishop appointed an event will also fire that creates a character with a finished church eduction.

If you make someone a bishop (by giving him land) he will leave your court. If you want him to be your diocese bishop you must appoint him, just like a chancellor or marshal.

Not having a diocese bishop doesn't lead to excommunication, so there probably is something else going on.

2) That can be caused by several things, you can have bad traits (like f.e. excommunicated or kinslayer) or have a bad reputation or low prestige.

If they constantly ask for money it could also signify bad leadership. If you lose lots in war or are seen to be too kind to bastard children people scorn you... Its a dog-eat-dog world out there!

Generally excommunication will happen in one of three ways:
  • Your piety drops into the negative, and the Pope excommunicates you for it
  • A neighbouring ruler is Papal Controller, and uses this to excommunicate you
  • You made a choice in an event that excommunicates you (such as not going on crusade, or refusing to institute Church Supremacy).

Try to raise your piety (e.g. by creating bishoprics, or building certain province improvements), this makes it harder to get excommunicated by the first two methods.
