Hi all,
I played HoI since the first release, but I never played it MP. Now we want to start a 4 player MP in our living community and I have some questions, which I hope you can answer.
The details: HoI2 DD, Patch 1.2, Axis (Germany, Japan) vs. Allies (UK, USA) difficulty/aggressive: normal/normal. [Edit]The 36 GC Szenario [/Edit]
1) Is this a fair setup? It would be ok if the balance is a bit in favour of the allies, because the axis players are more experienced.
2) Are there any house-rules we should apply? Like Germany not allying with Japan before both are at war with the USA, or certain trade restrictions, or not conducting certain spy actions (e.g. killing Hjalmar Schacht, the only german +10% IC minister) ...
3) On the intelligence screen I can see the units my opponent has, is this true only for units allready deployed, or can I see the units he hasn't deployed as well?
4) Does anyone know about tech-trees for printout, to keep track of the opponents research progress?
5) Because of the problem with auto-promotion, would it be feasible to allow any player to delete generals from his officer pool (or would this favour certain countries, eg. Germany)?
6) As I'm probably going to play Germany I'm thinking about a good german naval strategy. In SP I usually go for CV1 fleets to cover Sealion after the fall of France and have a High Seas fleet by 42/43. Since I'm sure that a early Sealion will not be possible if the opponent is human I think I should switch my naval strategy. I have tried a German BB fleet approach in SP and it worked very well. 4xBB4 + escorts really gave the UK CVs some hard battles, in four months of war I sunk 4 UK CV, 5 UK BBs and a lot of smaller ships (losses on my side where ok, no BB lost). My fleet always needed only one hour to close in on the allied CV fleet, but I think this is probably to bad allied Admiral usage. Now I don't want to discuss the whole thing (German naval strategy) over again (there are plenty of discussions on this topic in these forums). My question is: Can a (much cooler) BB fleet be successfully employed against human controlled RN and USN? Or is the only way to win the battle for the atlantic with CVs (the later models)?
7) My experience in SP is, that the subs have been greatly improved in DD. In one MP thread I read about a really succesfully U-Bootcampaign against the allies. If I follow the Dönitz strategy (start the war with around 60 x SS IV and continue to produce them in numbers), I think I should be able to significantly hurt UK convoys. First question: Is this applicable? The subs should be grouped in small (4 or less SS per) fleets. Can I still manage such an amount of fleets (while performing Barbarossa), or is this a thing that works in SP but not in MP? Second question: The UK probably has more than enough resources on their island, but such a strategy would hurt their oversea units. Could Japan benefit from this (in India and the Pacific)? I think I read somewhere that India produces their own supplies, is that true?
8) Not an MP question: How do I abandon a doctrine? I haven't found any hint in the manual but read on these forums that it is possible. Where is the button to abandon a doctrine? I really looked around in the Technologie View but I havent found anything ...
thanks in advance,
Cheers Grishnak
