There has been a declining interest in Valkyrienet, the matchmaking server running for the old Europa Engine games, over the last few years, while maintenance and running costs have still been running high.

In early April, we'll be shutting it down permanently, when we are moving offices.

Multiplayer over the internet will still be possible through direct IP.

This does not affect EU3, Rome or HoI3 multiplayer games.

This is indeed sad to hear, but i recon we'll overcome the obstacle.

Is there any news on the efforts put into reprogramming EU2 from various people who were allowed to do so?

Sad indeed, I hope that connecting trough direct IP will suffice and it won't create to many connection problems.

I hope that this grave fate is not meant for eu2 subforum also.

no. subforums do not need alot of work to maintain.

:(. will it be possible for modders to support multiplayer johan?

hoi2 random games are gone for good :<

"Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!"

Do not pile on the agony people. Vnet was just program/platform we used to connect. It can be easily replaced (with Hamachi for example). Game loobby, the place where we mostly chat will stay and that is most important.

skype works well for communication

skype makes voice communication. Easier rehosts, better war communication (less pauses) and so on.

I`m usually icq-online midday and at weekends.

Ive been campaigning for using voice communication for more than a year. It really changes the game, much more fun.

Yes - just look at HAL he can't even type during a session if he is in a little war, now when you backstab him he can start yelling out how outraged he is at once.

Then while you annialate his armies, you can now hear him crying in realtime, not just his after game ranting in the thread.

The possibilities are endless i tell you ...... :D

i suppose that lion cry would block all communication between us. Better mute him.

Voice communication would be interesting, however this is not really an alternative to vnet. It can be done with or without Vnet. As to the lack of vnet, I suppose connecting to IP works fine.

Does that affect Diplomacy too? It has no direct IP option (oddly it's mentioned in the manual but doesn't exist inthe actual game).
