is Vnet ever gonna go back up?.....of do we just play single player the rest of our lives?......i think there is a need for HOI2 to get on another game server like gamespy...or which ever one paradox thinks is suitable...because as it is very very difficult to find and play games as it is....thx, Geofactor

Not much we can do...
I suspect that you're right but I'll see what I can do. Past experience is that, when Paradox goes on holiday, V-Net is effectively unsupported. And most of their staff are on holiday now.

I inquired whether V-Net could be released so that we could host our own V-Net servers as a backup or alternative. Johan said that this was not easily done as the server requires a complex software environment. But we should keep pressing the matter as it would be bad if the service were orphaned now that Paradox are moving to a new architecture (see Diplomacy).

To avoid cold turkey during the Christmas period, please make use of the existing alternatives like ICQ (see the sticky threads for details and a list of contacts). I recommend the web-based ICQ2Go service which does not require any software to be installed and so is usable from any internet PC. Another good option is Trillian, which supports most popular instant messaging tools.

And if you're disatisfied with the current level of service then do email Paradox' customer service so that the issue appears on their radar. They made some effort to upgrade this forum and provide more bandwidth for it and that's because it has hundreds of users. Please make it clear to them that V-Net has many users too .

Has anyone seen if MSN Zone would be another spot to try and use for HoI2 games ?

Back in the Day was used for Warcraft2 so was Heat.net. I have not been there since my Age of Empire days but there might still be an open ended chat rooms to host games from. Just might have to figure out how to do the .exe run file commands from that type of gaming server.
