Bug where minor sounds randomly disappear.
Same issue here:

Is there any fix?

Solution
I need to use borderless fullscreen to not have the game CTD when alttabbing.
Right click on ck2game.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then edit the file Documents/paradox/ck2/settings.txt to say:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no

Does that help with that?
I think this might have something to do with borderless fullscreen. But I need to use borderless fullscreen to not have the game CTD when alttabbing. Damned if I do, damned if I don't

Maybe i misunderstand the described problem, but....

That sounds are not playing indefinitely no matter what is perfectly normal.
Also when the game is paused for some time, then the sounds stop, likely to prevent them from becoming annyoing when the player is trying to focus on things.

What sounds you hear also depends on the the zoom level, what you look at and what happens in that picture.
When close zoomed in you hear the specific terrain effects (city, farm, coast etc), rather distant high in the sky you won't
and at some point zoomed out will rather hear windy sounds.

So in short, there not always being some sort of sound around and the game turning realtively silent sometimes is normal
in my long experience with the game.

Playing in fulscreen instead fixed your sound problem ?
Appears i did misunderstandd your post then.
Interesting and good to know, as i hadn't read of that before.

What could be the cause for that @AndrewT ?
A conflict with another program/overlay ? Any speculations ?
Curious, as i have no real idea.

It's the clicking sounds, selecting troop sound, etc. Small sounds like that.
Edit: It might have been something with playing in 144hz too. First I changed it to 60 as I was told, and it worked. Then I tried 144 again, and the problem came back.
But it always goes to 23hz in borderless, but I think that's incorrect. It says 23hz, but it's much smoother and actually 144, I think. So fullscreen and 60 fps for sure works at least.

Thanks for the reply.

I hope that your CTDs while alt-tabbing in borderless mode stopped with fullscreen optimisations disabled.
Regarding that I can't alt-tab on Win10 while playing CK2 in borderless and i oi use the Windows key + D for that instead.
That had already worked better for me too when still on Win7.

Can't tell you anything on the herz issue other than that is what me end others see and experience as well.
