I have run into a problem where some workshop growables are being treated as plopped buildings, throwing a "space is already occupied" message whenever I try to build over them. They also show without the colored zoning underlay. This also causes strange behavior when the building is demolished after being abandoned. It leaves an unzoned plot of land which needs to manually be rezoned.

Is there a way to fix this?

You could stop them from growing by either using Styles or the Building Themes mod. Styles can't include the default buildings, so if you're using those it isn't really an option. If not then you just need to make sure you paint a district and select the style, and that the style has buildings of the level and lot size of the buildings you don't want to spawn. With Building Themes you could just make 1 custom theme with everything except those buildings in it and then apply it to the whole city (by opening the policies window without having a district selected). Then you wouldn't have to worry about districts.

If you don't need them to have a certain cost and households/workers, then you could remove the RICO settings for them. Ofc that would mean you'd need to zone under them if you have plopped them somewhere yourself.
