From the screenshots I've seen the space battles looks like they are happening inside the general game very much like they do in galciv series and in DW not in a instance.
In DW It works really well due to the size of the star systems and the small ship sizes but in galciv it looks stupid due to the large ship sizes.

I noticed the ships and space stations in Stellaris screenshots looks kinda big compare to the system overall size which got me alittle worried how the space battles will be.
Will it be small fleets you can have such as max 20 ships per fleet and you cant really afoard more than 2 more 20 fleets beacuse of their ship size thats how I see it, you cant really have a fleet of 100+ ships with that size of the ships we have seen it will really look odd, alot of ships cloggering up the entire solarsystem map.

In a instance battle then we can have a space battle like you can see in total war series, 2 fleets engage and the camera zooms in and the battle starts in that area they engaged at in a loaded instance.
I really hope we can see instance battle with rotating camera view option.

Anyone got some input on this?

Well, since we won't actually be able to take control of fleets at a tactical level, having instanced battles would just add useless loading screens. We'll have to wait until we get a DD on combat to know exactly how they plan to show combat, since they have said that what we see will be a an actual interpretation of a combat simulation as opposed to the semi-RNG system of other paradox games.

From what we've seen and what I can remember reading I think the battles take place directly on the strategic map like in Distant Worlds. Stardrive 1 would be another example of this type of real-time pausable game play with battles happening across space instead of in instanced arenas.

As Aleks said above, having an instanced combat system with no control over the battle could be kind of redundant. Endless Space offers something like this with the option to influence battles via cards, but I don't know what kind of controls of combat, if any, we might be offered by Stellaris.

Personally I'm find with having combat take place on the strategic map. Makes the whole galaxy feel more dynamic and connected that way versus instanced battles that take the player away from the map. And as long as fleet composition and ship designing allow players to influence battles in meaningful ways I don't need full tactical control of combat that an instanced system would benefit from.

Aren't all Paradox battles technically instanced? The battle happens on the map, but the individual units aren't actually marching around a province, instead they're in the little battle box.

I think it'll be like the battle system in most Paradox games; you don't get a whole of control, you just get to sit and watch them duke it out. I'm more interested in the time it takes to travel/fight; naval and pitched battles are usually pretty quick, and depending on how long it takes to move ships around the galaxy it may not be easy to bring reinforcements to an already ongoing battle.

We have seen Fleet limits from 30 Ships per Fleet up to 140 per Fleet-

Well I don't really mean we could actual control space battles like in Total War kind of battles but be able to see the battle unfoald when two fleets engage one another in space in a instance battle zone.
That way you can have big fleets and have epic space battles.

In Stellaris it look Like this pic, you can see the ships and the solarsystem, It does look out of proportion, think of that pic and 120 ships duking out on that map, it will look horrid.

Granted it is zoomed in but you get the picture.

Yeah, in current battle system, too many ships clog together will look horrible, just like in DW late game.

That just means they are running on DosBox. They would need a slightly upgraded virtual OS to run in an instance.

That is problematic for large battles. Perhaps at that point certain ships would represent classes of ships?
