Version 0.1 (for VIP 0.2b)

As much as I applaud Paradox for the achievement that is Victoria, I've always found that the prose they employ in the English version could use a lot of tweaking - making the grammar more consistent, adjusting the vocabulary and such. I've never been a fan of sentences such as "Persia went with Let the Reforms continue in Mohammed Shah". Poor Mohammed. :)

This is an initial attempt to make the in-game text a more plausible read. As a first step, I've modified the most often used sentences in text.csv and event_txt.csv, which affect the non-event specific messages appearing in the log and the message windows.

This mod consists of a series of simple edits to the text, but they are too numerous to list entirely (also, I admit I haven't kept track of all of them). In broad terms, though, I've done the following:

a. Made general corrections to the grammar and vocabulary.

b. Converted the LOG text to present tense, and made it more concise where necessary. It now reads more like a telegraph ticker.

c. Replaced many strange expressions with something more realistic. E.g., "Persia went with Let the Reforms continue in Mohammed Shah" is now "Persia goes with Let the Reforms continue regarding Mohammed Shah". "France had The London Treaty" is now "France: The London Treaty".

Still not perfect, I know, but at least the text now sounds somewhat plausible.

Also, the wording for events can always be further edited in the corresponding events file, so it makes sense to keep the words contained in text.csv to a minimum.

Replacing the "had" with a colon, for example, makes it possible to use words that are specific to the event in question. So, events concerning France, for example, can read: "France: Ministers consider the London Treaty", or "France: Arms industry founded." This sounds a lot better than: "France had Arms industry".

I haven't gotten round to editing the events themselves yet, but I may do so in the future. The trouble, of course, is that there are so many new events being made that they are hard to keep track of.

Version 0.2 (for VIP 0.2b)

Sorry, still haven't gotten round to listing every change I made (!), but suffice to say that this version is the result of playtesting 0.1 and correcting a few more odd expressions. Most significantly, when you get a message informing you of something happening to another country, it no longer says e.g. "France announces Louis Napoléon escapes to Switzerland happened to us": the "happened to us" is superfluous, and has therefore been removed.

I suggest you try this "as is".

As always, I'd be happy to hear your comments and suggestions. To discuss this mod, please go here:
