Required

Summary

Specialized industry companies don't earn a profit.

Steps to reproduce

Start a new game and build residential zones, commercial zones, or industrial zones.
Then build 'specialized industry' buildings such as grain or coal and keep waiting.

Expected Result

'specialized industry' companies start to sell their products to other companies in the city or export them to other cities.

Actual Result

No exports, no profit earned, and those companies keep in deficit which means they fail to upgrade to higher levels.

Game Version

1.2.5f1 (905.32326) [5761.21287](I've noticed this problem in the previous version, but at that time I thought that it was caused by mods.)

What mods do you have installed?

None

Affected Feature

  • Gameplay

Platform

  • Steam

Additional Information

Additional Information

In the save game 'Wokingham test.cok', trucks from other cities sometimes went to my specialized companies but when they left, those trucks were still empty, just like when they came.
While in the save game 'bug test.cok', I didn't notice any trucks from other cities came to those companies.

Industry & Specialized industry is not levelling up, stuck around "1". Trucks are not "in use" being 0/3 often, barely any industry traffic at all. Resources still seem to be "moving" according to city data, but trucks are not moving, no profit, no growth of specialized industry. Made taxes negative to push growth, but no influence. Industry still in demand and will build and remain open, but not profit growth in a city of 500,000+

Did not have this issue when game came out, trucks and profit have simply disappeared after updates. Civilian traffic and pedestrians still operating fine and getting to industry.

Having the same issue. I managed to get my vegetable industry profitable for a while by setting taxes to -10% and setting the cost for sewage and electric to 0. I then removed my old vegetable farm and added a new one in a different location. For a while it was 100% profitable, but the "balance" was negative the moment I placed it, and it continued to go more negative even when vegetable industry profitability was going up.

The farm got to level 2 and almost to level 3 before it stopped leveling up. It seems like roughly once a month there is a huge loss of profit. The profits always climb at roughly the same rate, but it is not enough to overcome the losses.

100% Profitability, negative Balance:

Still 100% Profitability, more negative Balance:

1 Month Wealth:

1 Year Wealth ~8 months later (incl. Ore as it is doing the same, along with other industries):

It's not just specialized industry for me. All industry runs a huge deficit even though they employ people and pay taxes as expected. At least generic industry seems to level up despite this?

I also noticed this problem after the last update. Honestly, problems with economy mechanics like this make me not want to play the game. I would like an explanation or a hotfix so I can play again, thank you.

Same my farms do not level up and are stuck at lvl 1 and they are all at 100+ effeciency. In the production overview there is a huge deficit, whilst I have many farms and only 50k people.

I agree all these simulation bugs really kill your enjoyment of the game if you're trying to play it as an actual game and not just as a city painter. You're trying to create an efficient, prosperous city where the industry, commercial etc. make a profit and level up, but this becomes impossible, not because the game is hard, but because the simulation is simply broken. It has been 9 months since the "Economy 2.0" update but many things still don't work properly. I think that patch should have been called "Economy 0.5".

upvoted. I tried this game (yet again...) after the latest update and fixed region packs. Made a city of about 400K, so plenty of time for extractors to upgrade. They just stay at level 1. There are other bugs I need to upvote also. Game: going back to sleep mode, until we get more fixes.

My latest testing (because all you ever do in this game is test for bugs it seems)

I finally did get one of the specialized industries to reach level 2, so they aren't hard-coded to never level up at least. It seems to be more of a balancing/logistics bug.

  1. I placed it as far as possible from all the city services etc.
  2. I placed some industry next to it just to further reduce the land value (This is peak realism. Everyone knows the best way to make your farms prosper is to place them right next to polluting industry)
  3. I set -10% taxes for Grain, Vegetable, all the food related industries etc.
  4. It still has a negative balance but it managed to level up

I have also run into this very problem.
At first I thought the reason was the mod "Plop the growables", but I've tested this and the mod is not the issue.

I really can't understand why they have a permanent negative balance regardles of profitability.
Also, for the most part "The rent is too damn high". Why is my small mining operation, next to dirty industry, paying 66k rent every month!?

The rent cost, look the price ^^

I never noticed this! This explains a lot. It happens in my cities too.
