I like that we have a game rule to make the game harder now. But some of the penalties for the player can make the game less fun.
I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy giving the AI some bonuses without hindering the player's own ability to interact with the game mechanics.

It should be easy to split the difficulty into two separate rules, one that makes the player weaker and another that makes the AI stronger. That way we can have more stable and stronger AI enemy realms while not having huge penalties when we're trying to marry someone or run a scheme.
