Spouse Succession?

I've noticed that in the ASOIAF, there's a couple of examples of a Lord's widow(er) succeeding them if they die with no living children, specifically in the case of Lady Dustin, Donella Hornwood and presumably Ramsay Snow. Has this ever been considered being added to the mod?

The reason for that is that when people are married into one of the Houses they are basically adopted, symbolized by the groom putting his cloak around the bride. So if there is no other brothers, nephews etc. then the widow will inherit as the last living member of the House

... that sounds like a pretty interesting feature, like a last ditch effort to preserve the House name and sigil, if not the actual bloodline. Absolutely seconded!

That said of course, this could have some pretty stupid results, like killing Roose and Ramsay causes Fat Walda to inherit the Dreadfort!

That only applies to children or relatives I think.

Maybe it could be implemented in a way that, if a lord or lady dies with no issue and has no other legitimate blood relatives, the liege inherits (as, I'm aware, already happens) and then has a few options to choose from, such as legitimising bastard children/relatives of the same dynasty, giving the title to the widow(er) (who then could take up the house name (or not, I haven't really though this through)), giving it to someone who has a claim on the title (and so is, probably, related somehow to the deceased lord/lady) or simply choose to keep it or award it to someone else (maybe the liege here could take a little bit of a prestige hit or temporary opinion malus with vassals, if the now-extinct house had been ruling for a certain amount of time/generations or were one of the Great Families, for letting a traditional noble family die out).

The option of giving it to the widow could be just the least likely to be taken by the AI, perhaps only by kind or honorable characters.

Basically if a dynasty dies out, it's fair game for anyone who has a connection to claim.

In the case of the Rosby inheritance, there were six claims put forward. One was from his ward, and another was from a nephew of Lord Rosby's deceased wife. The small council was supposed to choose one of the six.

It would be neat if this could be reflected ingame. If a house dies out, the liege would have to choose a bastard, ward, or widow of the lord to inherit the title. He could claim it himself if he has a connection also; or just outright steal it for a small amount of tyranny.
