I've been working on a Punic War scenario, and while the writing of it advances in a slow, but steady pace, the graphics part has a lot to desire. So far I've only got the Roman SPQR standard, but I guess through the request thread I can gradually get the shields I need.

What seems a lot more difficult is new sprites for the units. Especially for Rome and Carthage. I have no idea how to make these, I don't have the computer skills to convert them from other games. Generally I'm hopeless when it comes to these things.

So...

If anybody out there has a legionaire sprite (and maybe a hoplite?), I'd love to get my hands on such.

Or just as good, if anybody has enough spare time, perhaps they'd like to make some for me?

Anyhow, there is no rush. I doubt the scenario will be finished this month, but I'll need them sooner or later.

Thanks
Molleby

Go to the "How To Convert Units" thread Birger Jarl created. And follow the instructions there. Create your own. :D

Don't worry... I've already completed a few roman-era sprites...
Check the Sprites link (at the bottom) at Kaigon's Flagsite:

I've gotten a few with that flickering problem too. Any idea what causes it?

Nope... IIRC, even the MES had this problem with a few of its sprites... and I've only seen it happen to the standing sequence, not any of the others... is this the same for you?

Those are real cool Kaigon :D

Which ones should I use for IFU? I dont know much about history, it starts in year 700 i think ;x
AFAIK, none of them are historical correct, except perhaps Companion, since I've no idea what it is.
Other than that, I guess it would be better to use some of the sprites from the MES.

Man, they look cool! Why don't you do some sprites for the regular EUII time period? :)

Will you make some more for me if I have the answer for that? :p

While I haven't actually examined the problem with these sprites, it sounds like one I had when converting CK sprites - which was caused by having a wrong number of frames in the *.spr file...

Looking good Kaigon!
Thanks :)

Concerning the flickering:
As I see it, there are two types of flickering, one solved, one unsolved.
The first one is recognized by that the sprite is not whole, it's cut somewhere, often vertically in the middle.
The second one is recognized by that the sprite is just flickering, everything seems normal, the sprite looks good, but it flickers. I've only seen this problem with the standing guy, not the ones in combat or moving.

Problem 1 is usually caused by non-matching number of frames in the image and frames specified in the .spr file.
Problem 2 is unsolved.

On a different matter:
AFAIK, if a sprite-file is missing, it's replaced by the MIN sprite, which is the normal european one.

I can't see the unit!

I've followed the instructions in Birger's thread (I think), but there is just the flag waving over where the unit is supposed to be :(

Edit: nevermind, fixed it. But the sprite is still in the wrong place during battles. What can I do about that? And the shadow is red :(

This isnt exactly true. If you add a sprite to a country that doesnt have one to begin with and specify it in the country.csv you have to create spr files for each of the levels and point them to the MIN sprites.

Currently, the sprites are in some kind of beta state... I could try to fix it, just tell me which sprite it was...

Ok, there might be a misunderstanding here but this is what I meant, and I just tested it to be true.

Let's use MKJ Polish level 2 sprite as an example:
If you remove the "t-army c-pol a-fire d-ne l-2.spr" you will instead see the MIN sprite when the polish sprite attack (to the North East). Any other situation with the Poles will show the Polish sprite.

Yes, but that's only the case if there are no other Polish a-fire d-ne sprites from other levels present, IIRC...

MKJ added all 4 level in different .spr files. The level 2 directed to his sprites while 1,3-4 directed to the MIN sprite.
Are you suggesting that it instead of finding level 2 jumped down to level 1 to search for sprites? Or did I miss something?

Yes. If only one level is present, it will use nothing but that. I think...

You're right. If you only want a country to use one sprite for the entire game, you only have to specify lvl 1 graphics. ( Like I did with the Korean Turtle Ships :) ). The sprites will stay at lvl 1 until told to change, so if you want to change your sprite at Land 51, then you would only need to specify a lvl 1 and lvl 4 sprite.
