Event 40020 has your spymaster enacting revenge upon an assassin. The problem is that my spymaster is the assassin!

Does he have guilt issues or something? :) I'm not sure how to fix this one, but it should be investigated.

The whole retribution messaging system needs to be much clearer. It's better than in the Demo, but this message and the "seek redress from my liege" message are at best unclear, even when the Spymaster isn't holding a gun to his own head like Clevon Little in Blazing Saddles.

I believe it works in the way that it's not really the Spymaster who does the assassinations. He is just an "officer" who commands other subordinate assassins to perform the deeds.

Nevertheless it's strange that he would command a subordinate to kill him.

A save game of this issue would be good, if one is available. Just to check if there is indeed another person in the game who goes under the same name, as londoner247 is saying.

Sorry, I don't have a saved game that demonstrates this problem. I believe that the pictures don't match because the person the right of the popup is of the assassination target, Duke Dunnchad.

Well, yes, the actual retribution probably isn't physically performed by the Spymaster. He's not going to handcuff himself. But it's equally silly that he'd ask for permission to send someone to arrest himself.

I have forwarded the issue to our internal forums nonetheless. It's an interesting problem and I would consider the probability where there would be another person in the realm with the exact same name and who's plotting in that manner would be extremely low.

But who knows?

I have definitely seen people with the same name in my games (although don't have a screenshot to prove it at the moment). The message windows only use the title and first name rather than the dynasty name (if I remember correctly) so if you have two vassals of equal rank from different families in the same culture group then it is quite possible for them to have the same name.

Yes, I'm aware of this. But then one of these would have to actually be plotting against you as well. But I agree, there is a chance. Maybe we can find something wrong with it, and if not, then it should be working and there was a case of similar names.

Thanks for having someone take a look at it K-vald!

Actually, I thought about it, and I know it's not a case of two dukes by the same name. You can tell that the picture in the popup is of Donnchad I, not a second Feidlimid I. I know this because the icon in the screenshot is that of the Duchy of Galloway. I have a savegame from this universe in 1180 AD, and I can see that a Duke Donnchad I of Galloway with the correct portrait died in 1159.

So I do have a savegame of sorts. However, it's 21 years after the event. Let me know if it would still be of value.
