Hello everybody, this will be my first AAR and I'm picking my favorite country, the Soviet Union. "Bah, another SU World Conquest AAR" "Human SU wins an easy victory over Germany, how original", you'd say. Well, not quite I hope. ;) From what I've seen, if the Soviet Union has such a huge advantage over its enemies, it's mostly because the player knows what's coming, and so gets prepared, for Barbarossa and such. That's why I'll try to play as if I had no idea of what will happen, which should lead me in a rather desperate situation...well, anyways, you'll see! :p

So it will be a Doomsday Soviet '36 AAR, mostly based on gameplay(however, don't expect me to report every single move, at least not before some real action takes place), but most of the strategic decisions being role-played instead of systematically taking the best choice. The difficulty is set to Hard/Difficult, as for cheats I tend not to use them but sometimes I have to, in order to correct strange, illogical situations that just bother me. No "acceptall Germany in the Komintern" or free ressources cheats, of course.

Oh, well, and sorry for my english which is by far not my native language. I hope it's at least understandable. :)

Now enough talking let's begin with the first update.

"Under the wise leadership of the Party and Stalin, our nation on its way to become the most modern and industrialized nation of the world. Together, we will build Communism."

"Our country is the most peaceful country in the world. However, many enemies gather at our borders and seek for its destruction."

"To the west lie the nationalist-capitalist dictature of Poland and the expansionnist reactionnary Romania. During the Civil War, they supported the enemies of the state and invaded our lands. One day, we will ask back what is rightfully ours."

illus3.png

"To the north, the finnish workers and peasants are enslaved by the contre-revolutionnary clique of White Finns ruled by the ruthless and corrupt Marshall Mannerheim."

"To the east, our borders are threatened by the militarist expansionnistic Empire of Japan."

"But we have nothing to fear since the glorious Peasant's and Worker's Red Army under the command of comrade Tukhatchevsky is protecting us against all foes."

"I love my Fatherland and I am ready to work for its wealth and to fight for its glory."

- Excerpt from an essay by Egor Frolov, pupil at Danilovka village primary school, Saratov region, USSR.

I require some more suicide with that.

Cool, count me in. Just tell me where you got that crazy Mannerheim pic from? Is that some Soviet propaganda maybe? :D

"This is our mighty fatherland, the migthy Union of Soviet Socialist Republics."

Something is wrong here. Terribly wrong.

This idea have some potential. As for role playing part - remember that Soviet rulers (and indeed maybe whole country) were paranoid. Having longest land border in the world and being encircled by nations with different type government didn't help either. So I would suggest putting as many IC in armed forces as possible. Oh and you also could garrison all military-industrial complex you have with at least one div+military police.

Good luck.

Of course, your building factories east orf Urals, as if you expect the industrial bases to be invaded or something :p

Still, I guess Stalin did indeed plain massive expansion in Siberia before the war :) Interesting idea, I'll defiantly be reading

Looks like you're going for standard IC-whoring strategy. Where's the suicide in that? :).
It would be cool to see some early conquests, like Persia & Afganistan. Also, how about inviding India in 1937 or defeating Japan? Their whole army would be stuck in China, just asking to be encircled :).

haha,
great title
I'll follow this one

TombolaG - Worse, much worse than that...it's a suicide AAR after all! :p

LordSlowpoke, Akaki - More suicide coming.

Storm501
- Here you go ;) It's indeed a soviet propaganda poster from the Winter War, apparently aimed at disrupting the Finnish Army's morale by revealing them the truth about their commander...dunno if it worked so well

Beladriel, Von Perkele - Huh. So fatherland for the germans, motherland for the russians? Nice. :)

Edzako - if I go for infantry spamming this will be "SU rolls over Germany in '41" AAR, not suicide AAR. However your idea about garrisonning is just great, I'll definitely do so! :D

Miko94 - Thanks for your interest. ;)

"The most significant inflexion of the sovietic foreign policy in the Interwar years probably took place around 1936. At that time, the doctrine of "Socialism in one single country" was being officially rejected alongside with other ideas originating from the "right wing" of the communist party. That, and the dramatically increased rivality between the NKVD and the top army officers clique resulted in extremely interventionnist, aggressive foreign policy aiming at expanding the political influence of the Soviet Union worldwide. Driven with a large spectre of measures stretching from large-scale military and economical aids to nearly every left-winged nation of the world to a massive effort in creating and expanding an extensive spy network, especially in Western Europe, Middle East, and Japan, which later played the role of a non-negligible destabilization factor in some of the most infiltrated countries, this policy was however noticeable for the drastic reduction of the buildup of the military forces, which practically remained on the same level in both numbers and equipement between 1936 and 1939. The direct cause of this stagnation remains unclear; it would seem logical, for the Soviet governement, to backup their foreign policy with a strong military, ready to enforce it if needed; such a decision looks especially unadequate in the context of the last years of the Interwar era, when almost all industrialized nations were gearing up for a great war. However, the current state of science does not allow us to suggest an explication both based on reliable sources and plausible."

- The Second World War: An Overwiev of Interpretations, by Richard Martin

Moscow, Kremlin, meeting room of the Politburo, July 1st 1937

- Ahem...And now, comrades, let's hear what comrade Tukhatchevsky can say us about the state of our armed forces, Stalin said. At his words, the jabber and the noise in the room went down. Unlike Kalinin or Molotov, whose meaningless reports were barely listened to, Tukhatchevsky was a major piece on the political chessboard. If Stalin's domination over the Party was now indisputable, Tukhatchevsky still could rely on a large part of the army's officers - and there were not much other people in the Soviet Union in these days who were backed up by such a powerful faction. The most ambitious party members wondered which side to support in the struggle between the Army and the NKVD - and thus observed his moves with great attention.

- Comrade Stalin! It must be said that our armed forces are currently in an extremely poor, sorry state. Desertions and generalised draft evasion retains us from fully reinforcing our divisions, many of these remaining understrength and therefore unable to perform effective operations. With all of our military industry output being sent to Spain, our troops are lacking even the most basic equipment and most of the units were never modernized since the Civil War. In the Far East Cavalry Corps, reports indicate a complete absence of any anti-tank weaponry while the lack on horses greatly reduces the mobility of the unit; the 1st Tank Division possess barely a dozen of outdated tanks since the others were scuttled due to maintenance problems; and most of our mechanised corps do not even have any tanks at all. In such circumstances, I would recommend...

Stalin interrupted him with a movement of the hand. "Thank you for the overview of the situation, comrade Tukhatchevsky. We'll discuss later the measures we shall take. Now let's speak about our foreign policies. Comrade Berzin, please."

Berzin, the head of the powerful Foreign Section of the NKVD, stood up and began an obviously well-prepared speech.
- Comrades! Following the wise instructions of the Party and of comrade Stalin, our department is proud to announce that lately, huge progresses have been made in all areas we are working on. As you probable all know, it's been two months since we managed to convince our Brazilian brothers to join the glorious fight for the Revolution in the whole world.

Getulio Vargas, President of Brazil, signing the Cooperation and Military Assistance Treaty with the USSR.

- Our informator and collaborator networks in the capitalist states keep expanding steadily, providing us with many classified information. Moreover, reports indicate that the social situation in Turkey becomes more and more explosive due to the successful cooperation of our agents and of the local Communist party, and thus let us hope for the emergence of a revolutionnary situation in the coming months. However, additionnal funding will be needed in order not to lose the momentum.

illus6.png

Berzin sat down, satisfied with his presentation. After a while, Stalin spoke:

- Well comrades, what do you think? Shouldn't we help the turkish peasants and workers in their struggle for freedom?

The Politburo was stunned. It was very rare that Stalin openly took sides in a debate; when he did, the disgrace of his opponent was almost unavoidable.

The results of the vote were, as always, unanimous.

hehe, trully odd. he was a fascist back then.
another mistake by paradox regarding brazil. in the platinean war scenario, brazil's captal is goiás:confused: the capital was Rio de Janeiro at the time.

Turkey and CHina under heavy Soviet influence?

Dunno what happened to China in your game, but I can guarantee Turkey wasn't under Soviet influence, thanks to the clever politics.

Looking nice. I especially liked the little propaganda snippets integrated into the screenshots. :D Do have more of those in the future.

It'll be interesting to see what horrid quagmire a more aggressively internationalist USSR will blunder into. :p
