Game is playable, but sometimes ?randomly freezes the whole system and crashes + artifacts on title screen.

- Experienced throughout multiple saves for past ~3 months.
- clean install
- native linux version from Steam
- Steam deck LCD
- latest beta SteamOS - no tinkering with OS from me
- All dlc and no mods installed
- experienced crashes both in short (less than 1 hour) and longer (4+ hour sessions) across multiple saves

These posts seem to be related to my case:

Checked protonDB - negative reviews fit my case:
- Artifacts on title screen
- The game sometimes crashes inexplicably
- https://www.protondb.com/app/529340#nxto13QAsg

Haven't checked myself, but ram problem would explain for me system freezes and crashes. Still wondering about artifacts in main menu, but they dont really affect my experience in a major way.

Personally, I will wait for the next update and hope for the fixes. This was posted only because my experience on steam deck (certain hardware and certain OS) suffers and maybe it will help to debug the cause of it (and maybe other Linux distros).

*playing with Valve docking station and external 1920x1080p monitor for the most part. no docking station and Internal screen also had issues.

Two issues with that, I'm afraid!

1/ the devs do not in general read this forum, only Bug Reports, and
2/ Ubuntu is the only supported distro for this and all our games. I understand the Deck is being looked into but that's as far as it goes.

That said, I got a little lost between your mention of the native Linux version of the game, and proton which I understand uses the Windows version.

Yeah, I know that PDX only tests Ubuntu, so no high hopes from me.

Your understanding that proton uses Windows version is correct.
The only mention of proton by me is protondb website, which is used to report both native and proton(windows) versions of the games and how they run on Linux in general.

Whenever you are launching Steam version of the game on linux, it first checks if developer has linux native version (distro is not checked) and by default launches it. In case of PDX strategy games, it sees that there is linux version and tries to use it. As only Ubuntu goes through testing, there is no guarantee that it will work flawlessly on other distros (such as SteamOS), but in general it works. That's what I meant under "Linux native" version.

If users so desire, they may force Steam to use Windows version via proton.

I am not using proton and have used protondb website to see reports from other people how their game runs - turned out native version non-Ubuntu users are having problems as well + there are claims that Windows version is better stability-wise on linux

Didn't know that. I will try to create bug report post then. Thanks!
