Hello. I was wanting to finish my current game before I patch up to 1.04 so I turned automatic updates off on steam. No good, game won't let me play without updating. Super super annoying. Is there any way around this?

Don't think that will work. At any rate my current game as the Byzantines is probably ruined
You don't have to start the game through steam. Some games require it, but CK2 doesn't -- just use the executable in your game folder.

Once you're done, I'd suggest turning off automatic updates for CK2 in Steam (right-click on CK2 in library -> properties -> Updates tab (I think it's called)).

I actually did turn off automatic updates several days ago to no avail. Steam decided to update anyway...really unbelievably pissed right now. And the game won't start since it already started updating. And with the Byzantines being nurfed and their enemies being buffed (despite the shia chaliphate already being way OP) I really don't see the point in playing that game anymore. Exactly the reason I turned automatic updates off, but oh well

automatic updates when turned off only start the updates when you hit 'play'

I'm not so sure about that (this is me as Ireland, the Byzantines did this all on their own)...

P.D. how do I attach the image so it shows full inline?

I started my save up after updating and some weird stuff is happening. The ledger now says the Seljuk Turks have an army of 30k, which is pretty dumb considering I've taken substantial territory from them before the update. Anyone else notice how Muslim countries in the game can just magic up thousands and thousands of troops? And I say magic because every Muslim country I fight has an army far larger than their lands should be able to support...I really have no idea how one is supposed to win a war against the shia caliphate. Has anyone seen a successful crusade against them in a game with the earliest starting point? It was difficult before, and probably even impossible now after they've been inexplicably "buffed". This save is essentially ruined though as the patch differences are causing strange things to occur. Spain was mostly Muslim before. Now they are pushing into France. Don't know if the Muslim super powered armies are just a result of patch save incompatibilities though

How about an in-game compatibility option for saves from previous versions?

It IS already savegame compatible - it wouldn't make sense to have a "Run this savegame in 1.03" option. You'd be just as well off just NOT updating then. (It would also produce a hell of bug reports that are in fact outdated and may have been fixed)

It's not that bad and it's not really cheating. Check those counties when you conquer them, they can hold a LOT of people. And in that time, the muslims were much more advanced than the europeans, so their counties already have a lot of the buildings there. Just make sure you get a hold of a holy mercenary band like the templars, and that you don't attack them alone. Wait when there's a crusade, or when they're fighting some big wars and you then go in.
