When building a new ship in the fleet builder, the game will automatically save a ship under your default race name as if you had created it; it will be an exact copy of the ship you made but it will have a default empire as a name (IE "Superhuman Union-Class Corvette") plus if you took that same ship design and named it it will show up again under the name you gave IE (Destroyer-Class Corvette) even though they are the exact same ship, designed at the same time using only 1 custom ship slot.
Basically what I'm saying here is that if you make 1 ship it will create 2 ships with different names and clutter up your build section of the spaceport. It's also really annoying because it does this every time you build your own design so you can get 5 copies of the same ship quite fast. Not sure if this was intentional but it seems to me like it was not.
