Description
NUM_POP_GROUP, ECONOMY, ECONOMY_OVERLORD OOS when playing Cross-OS [v4.0.17] (9355)

Game Version
4.0.17 (9355)

What version do you use?
Steam

What expansions do you have installed?
I have the Subscription, Plantoids, Humanoids, Synthetic Dawn, Utopia, Leviathans Story Pack, Apocalypse, Megacorp, Distant Stars, Ancient Relics, Lithoids, Federations, Necroids, Nemesis, Aquatics, Overlord, Toxoids, First Contact, Galactic Paragons, Astral Planes, Season 8 Expansion Pass, The Machine Age, Cosmic Storms, Grand Archive

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
At a seemingly random time, anywhere between ~11 years to late mid-game, the current playthrough will keep throwing OOS errors with the codes ECONOMY_OVERLORD, ECONOMY, NUM_POP_GROUPS. Once they start, if you don't roll back at least a few months - it will keep happening *every* month after.

It seems that something the AI does causes this, but checking the logs myself I haven't discovered any clue as to what it is.
The friend I was playing with was running Arch Linux x86_64 on Hyprland, and also has a much more specced out PC and Network than myself.

Attached is the Save File and OOS ZIP before (9f3c...) [simple RANDOM_COUNT due to cross-OS RNG generator], and after (42044c...) the ECONOMY OOS started occuring.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
Simply play the game as normal with all the expansions enabled with at least one player Cross-OS (1 Windows 1 Linux).

Can confirm this on my game as well, using only non-checksum UI mods. Friend was on Steam Windows, I am on ArchLinux Wayland (Sway) on Steam. OOS happened after about 11 years, then every six months after that, even if we resync. Sometimes it would happen the next month, or two months ahead, but the reliable one was every six months. Same error message as the OP.

This game was started on 4.0.13 (9024)

Just tested with two friends running via Proton instead of Native and the issue happens as well, this time not even at the month change.

3a75... is when RANDOM_COUNT, NUM_POP_GROUPS, ECONOMY, ECONOMY_OVERLORD, CONSTRUCTION occured.
b5eb... is when only RANDOM_COUNT occured.

Windows <-> Linux: desync every 1-2 months, unplayable

MacOS <-> Linux, same save file: works fine

Windows streaming from MacOS <-> Linux: absurd workaround, but it works!

Sure hope they're gonna fix this. Not loving the "look, we fixed multiplayer" in the update...

This has gotten worse with the newest patch.

Now 7-11 years in everyone gets RANDOM_COUNT, NUM_POP_GROUPS, ECONOMY, ECONOMY_OVERLORD, CONSTRUCTION, NUM_FOCUS_CARDS - and save becomes unplayable after another 3 (d0b1... save).

Same issue here with me (Linux) hosting with one other Linux player and one windows. We got desyncs every month or two and couldn't continue the game. Oddly enough, I played a game with just the windows player and we had desyncs every couple of years but otherwise everything worked.

Just went through a full 200 years incl. Sentry Array with the same platform amongst players (Windows), and yeah can conclude the same. Barring the good old random_count, no odd desyncs.

One thing of note, weirdly enough when playing with just one Linux player and myself (both Linux) we have the same problem that we have playing with two Linux and one Windows player. That is to say with just two Linux players (no Windows players) we keep getting the continuous desyncs roughly two months apart.

Also getting the same error playing with friends, 4 Windows & 1 MacOS. One thing of note, seems to have only occured on the Mac OS computer.

It seems there may be too many issues being reported in one thread. The original poster's error, like the thread I opened, seems to be a unix-like crossplay issue as it is reproducible with game clients and particularly game versions targeted at different platforms. In my testing, the problem goes away, even with a Linux player hosting, if that same player runs the windows version of the game through proton. Given that Mac <-> Linux crossplay is reported as unaffected, I strongly suspect the issue is related to case sensitivity in event references because mandatory case sensitivity is a feature of both macOS and Linux, and I've previously encountered all kinds of bugs with other Paradox games and especially mods that ended up being a result of case insensitivity under the Windows development environment

For clarity, there may well be other crossplay issues (including between different versions of Windows), or issues unrelated to crossplay that are yet to be squashed.

OP here, I can still replicate a Linux <-> Windows desync within 11 years no matter WHERE the game continues off from. Had my friend be on Windows till 2320, then swapped to Arch — desync'd almost exactly 11y later similar to starting from 2200.

This is on 4.0.17 as well (will update title).
