Characters are dropping like flies in my game. More importantly, none are from epidemics, so the casualty rates for life are extremely high for seemingly no reason. My main character had ~15 children. Of them, 4 survived to adulthood. The pattern repeats for their descendents (Roughly 1/4 surviving to adulthood) along with the AI. It doesn't stop there of course, as adults are also dying at near catastrophic rates, though not nearly as badly.

How in the world can you reduce the death rate, if it all? A first generation character has just inherited the Holy Roman Empire, formerly the Carolingian Empire.

Oh, and if anyone had played Rimworld, my characters are missing limbs, eyes and nearly are all scarred. Everyone from the courtiers to the dukes and kings. Seems like the latest fashion craze.

Sounds like a faulty install to me. See if you have correct checksum, disable other mods. If that's not it, delete all CK2Plus mod files, and reinstall.

I've been having the same issue. My kids have a tendency to die from "accidents" as early as age 1 and will usually be without a hand or foot by adulthood. I had a character with 15 kids, only two of which made it into adulthood. I have the correct checksum (BFGR) for the most recent version.

I've never seen this happen to the extent you're describing. I'll run a "bucket" test today so we'll see what the actual death rate is.

It's normal for almost everyone to die in deadly epidemics. But usually 40-50% children survive to adulthood.
Also children tend to die if you have a demon child.

This, reviving Tuatha and pretty much 80% of the entire 1st gen spawn dies before they can even face the druid trials. With infected wounds, missing limbs and faces. Heck, all kids have scarred before 3! I am terrified about the 12 year regency I have coming up.

Same here, it only started happening after i reformed the celtic faith to Tuatha.
My current ruler has 16 children, 6 died from accidents before age 10, 3 died from infected wounds, and 2 died just before reaching 16. Every child is maimed in some way.

That's interesting, I was also playing a Tuatha game, I don't remember if I was reformed or not.

Jumping in here. My ruler is Celtic as well. He's had 16 children, one of whom reached it to adulthood before dying from illness. Three of the children are between ages 6 and 8. The rest all died of accidents or disease, all of them were maimed, most were scarred. Is the climate up in Caliu really that bad?

Had the exact same problem trying to revive Tuatha recently. Adults died a lot too, and I had that "monster trying to pull you underwater" event pop up for me like every couple years (And I wasn't a child then).
I think it got a little better when I moved to Ireland, but still not sure.

Public Test

Here is a file where I reduced chances of some celtic events. Please place it in CK2Plus/common/on_actions and overwrite.
Backup your saves and try it. Let me know if it's any better.

Also, please make a note which events trigger too often for your character (first two or three words from event description should be enough).

Thanks for the fast update, much better in the 2 hours that i tested.
I did some fiddling around and found out that children that managed to survive pre-fix had around 200-400 piety and around 500-1000 prestige. Dunno if thats any help but ive never seen children with more than 10 piety before age 16.
Also the "pulled underwater by something" event seemed to be one of the few celtic events that gave piety, so i spammed it on myself until i got the 5% death. My cause of death was "an accident" which is the same cause of death all the dead children had.
Ill be playing more later so ill let you know if anything shows up.
Thanks again :)

I think the Afanc event chances may need to be reduced even further or the event itself eliminated. Still seeing an unreasonable amount of Celtic children wind up wounded/infections/disfigured/dead by accident in 4.05.4b

Edit: Other possibility is the Changeling events maybe? I can't see where those wound someone though.

Yeah I deleted the Afanc event from 00_on_actions.txt and it is a much improved experience.

That should not be a pulse event. Also, I think it dates from the days when wounding and maiming were much less serious experiences than they are now.

This happened in my game too, and I went and edited it out as OutsiderSubtype said to do, but I figured I'd note here that two other celtic events, Bran's ship and Banshee, happened pretty early in game to my character. I don't know what former MTTH events means, but if these were supposed to be roughly as rare as the MTTH was originally, the odds of seeing both so fast is pretty small (but totally possible).

Friend and I are also seeing quite some child deaths due to accidents and infected wounds, without explanation (but that might be our notification settings).
Latest version, 4.05.4c, not using anything else that changes the checksum.
