Stories from Göring's War Room - A different GER 36

This will be my first AAR, played with the Cold War Tech Tree Expansion on Normal/Normal, DD Arma 1.3 and a few custom events. Note that I will refrain from building IC ingame, but to compensate this I gave me and the AI a small industry boost in the difficulty.csv file. Emphasis is rather on gameplay. Please feel free to comment.

Reichsmarschall Göring

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prologue

It was a short night for him. After drinking quite a lot of his favourite herbal liqueur that evening, his mind gave him some weird dreams again. Like most of the time, he was seeing himself again as the highly-decorated Imperial pilot, dogfighting with the Entente in his Fokker D.VII, commanding hundreds of brave men. His heavy body rolled and shaked while he was having this dream. The crowd cheered his name, when he was given yet another medal, and even the right to govern an Imperial colony.

But suddenly, the voices stopped. Everything faded into black, as he suddenly heard a rough male voice yelling at him: "Herr Göring! Wake up now! You have to get up! Bitte, Herr Göring! Wake up!!!"

Alerted by the man's voice, Göring was immediately wide awake. His torso rose up like a coil spring. Surprised by this, Leutnant von Bonzmann nearly fell to the floor, but managed to barely hold his balance. "Why do you disturb me, Bonzmann?" mumbled Göring. "I have order to take you to the Reichskanzlei, it seems to be important, Herr Göring." replied the stressed lieutenant.

After he was rushed to the Kanzlei, Göring entered the Führer's office. He was stunned when he saw some other important party members gathered around the table.
There were Himmler, Goebbels, Ribbentrop and Hess, and they were all looking at him...

He simply could not believe it. A healthy man like the Führer had a stroke? Adolf even refused to eat meat, and now this end for a man like him, a man determined to write history - what a joke.

"Herr Göring, the Führer has you named as his successor in his political testament. You are now officially the most important man in Germany. As Führer was the unique title granted by Adolf to himself, you are now the Reichsmarschall, the new leader of the German Reich. Von Ribbentrop was named the new Reichskanzler and foreign minister."
The others applauded, as Göring was still astonished by this sudden twist. The next days would surely not be easy for him, neither would the next years be...

The first days

After holding his inaugurational speech, Göring quickly assembled his cabinet, to announce his new program.

The new faces in his cabinet were Johann Schwerin von Krosigk, he was named the new economy minister. Another replacemnt was Franz Gürtner, who was now minister of the interior. Of course, Göring still remained the commander of the Luftwaffe. His first announcement would be a new law, giving the government more influnce in economical affairs. Krosigk began working this out.

This would include a massive build-up of Anti Air guns, as Göring stated that "the war of the future will be decided in the skies". He also announced that new Air Bases will be built. Thousands of German laborers began working on this the next day.

Finally, when asked about granting funds for new research projects, Göring decided to invest in better planes and new machines to build them. Angered by this decision, Navy commander Erich Raeder protested: "What about new ships for me men? Surely, you can't be serious only building up your Luftwaffe!" The Reichsmarschall sighed. He looked suspicious at the Admiral and replied: "OK then, which projects can you present me that are important for you?"

Raeder quickly presented the possible projects, but was suddenly interupted. "YES! This seems good - let me have a closer look. Of yourse I will grant funds for these. Our navy shall field a lot of these in the future. Here you go Raeder! Go and tell the Kriegsmarinewerft to research these aircraft carriers."

Looks good, but for the sake of historical nitpicking, Germany wasn't allowed to field an air force after Versailles and the major air works here would have attracted a fair bit of attention. Other than that, it looks good.

The Luftwaffe was revealed to the world in 1935.tion.

The first year

"Meine Herren, it has been exactly one year today since our Führer passed away. Let us all observe a minute's silence." These were the words that opened the first Reichskongress, the general assembly introduced by Göring, where all the major and minor state and party officials would gather. Hotels in Berlin were completely overbooked, as the Reichskongress was held only shortly after new years day.

After hearing a war mongering speech by Goebbels, and seeing a movie about the summer olympics, the crowd was delighted as Göring finally took the floor.

"Good evening. There were many doubts when I was appointed Reichsmarschall, but these voices are muted now. Under my leadership, great things have been achieved in the last year."

"More and more powerful planes leave our factories, and the industry is in full swing again."

screensave4.jpg

"New powerful ships are constructed, and will soon form the core of the new Kriegsmarine."

"A new strategy was developed for the Wehrmacht, introducing fast tanks as a support weapon for the airforce. We will strike as fast as a lightning if yet another war is forced upon us!"

screensave5.jpg

"Look at this map: We tested this new strategy in the Spanish Civil War, and the results were amazing. The reds were so overwhelmed by this, that they would only curse frantically, turning over their tanks to our Spanish comrades. We can be sure that soon this war will be concluded with another victory against the red menace."

"I am proud to announce that Graf von Krosigk worked out a new edict, increasing cooperation between the state and the industry, making them work even more efficiently than before. Finally, I was informed that Grand Admiral Raeder resigned, because he wants more time for his family. His successor will be Grand Admiral Saalwächter, a proponent of the modern carrier warfare.

You can be sure that the next years will be even better, and I vow that I will bring Germany to the former Glory and beyond!!! Farewell, meine Herren."

The crowd, impressed by his speech, applauded and cheered as Göring stepped away from the speaker's platform.
