So I am in the middle of a GC as the Ottomans. I load up the game last night and click on my save game and get an immeadiate DTD. So I try again, same result. Note I am not starting the game I am simply clicking on the save games filename in the list. After I reboot the computer and get the same result a couple of more times I decide to fall back to the autosave. Same result, DTD. I try this a couple of times, with no luck. So I try the "oldAutosave". Same problem again DTD. I try a save of a different GC that I had kicking around, and this loads without trouble. At this point I wonder if the files are corrupted so I look at them in a text editor. They appear fine, no garbage characters etc... So I conclude I am sunk, and will have to start a new campaign. Before I do this I decide I really should go ahead and get the 1.04 patch. My original plan was to complete a GC in 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 so I could compare the differences in the game play. I download the patch (nice patch by the way only 2.5 MB) and load it up. I am about to start an entirely new GC, but I say what the heck, and give my old Ottoman save game one more try. It loads and runs fine....very strange.

Patch 1.03 (and maybe 1.02) corrupted the save game file. It's described in the bug forum.

There's an easy work-around: load the save game file in a text editor and find the list of playable countries. You'll notice a lot of double entries - they cause the crash. Delete all, but the country you want to play. Voila.

You might have to do this every time you reload the game.

The bug has been fixed in 1.04

For some reason, all my English autosaves seem to DTD in the 17th century. If I save as... during the game, it goes okay, but in 1.03 and 1.04, I run into that problem and have to mess with the file every time.

there were 3 different crahs in the 1700 that Johan has fixed for 1.05
