Are there are comprehensive strategy guides or posts or websites or anything about EU? Something that really spends some time on the aspects of the game, rather than just a paragraph?

Welcome to the Forum!

The sticky threads in the FAQ are very good. However, I would _strongly_ suggest you go first to Oranje's FAQ. It's half FAQ and half strategy guide. And it will get you up to speed on all the really important elements of the game.

A must read!

thanks but

Thanks for your replies, but I've read all the FAQs listed. They tend to be VERY informative fleshing out of the game, and definately make the game understandable.

But what I'm looking for is more detailed tips.

For example, when playing as Russia, is there any way to establish a solid economy that won't be technologically behind?

What should EVERY country focus their investments on at the start of the game?

What tech levels are vital, and which are fluff?

Should I focus on trade or infrastructure?

How valuable are manufactories early in the game?

etc.

You could try reading some AARs (After Action Reports) perhaps. There's a whole forum dedicated to them. Just find one on the country you're interested in.

They're basicaly just a detailed run-through on exactly how the author played his/her game. And most of them are so well written, as to make them enjoyable to read in their own right.

Re: thanks but

All good questions.
What should EVERY country focus their investments on at the start of the game?
Building tax collectors.
What tech levels are vital, and which are fluff?
All tech levels are vital. If you want a military empire, naval empire, or a trading empire….you might want to adjust the sliders to reflect this.
Should I focus on trade or infrastructure?
Yes. :) Both serve a vital role. The higher trade level, the more competitive your traders will be in a CoT. This means they are more likely to bump out another nation and less likely to get bumped themselves. They also will produce more trade revenue. Infrastructure levels will allow you to eventually build judges and governors. They will eliminate the revolt risk from a tax collector and produce more income.
How valuable are manufactories early in the game?
Manufactories will have different effects on different elements of your empire. A fine arts academy in your capitol province will give you an added stability bonus. The other manufactories might be better towards the middle of the GC. By they your empire should be relatively established and you'll have the added time and cash to focus on economic development.

The basic answer is that there are no comercial Stratagy guides for EU. You have to do a lot of reading on this board and a lot of playing. Both are good experiences, as the Playing is great fun and the people on this board are very helpful and fun.
