Hi. Believe it or not, I really enjoy playing as France and I am wondering what are good multiplayer strategies... like what to research, what to do to defend against the Germans and Italians.

I've never actually played through a full multiplayer game as France because both times the game crashed mid 1936, but my strategy was (and was going to be) as follows:

Massive IC upgrades in South of France, North Africa, Indochina.
Research land doctrine and infantry techs, build only infantry. Move fleet to Med and allow player UK to defend the Channel and challenge the Baltic.
Influence Romania and Rep. Spain (to make sure it stays democratic).
Fortify entire Eastern border constanyl including provinces bordering on Switzerland and Italy.

When Spanish civil war breaks out, send exp. forces to Spain to ensure republic wins.

Get the entire UK air force to sit in France so that we can attempt to maintain superiority when the Germans attack.

Are my ideas crap? Should I send rep. spain extra supplies?

Any other ideas? Should I fortify along the Somme?

#1 rule - don't DoW the Axis, let them DoW you.

want to help your fellow Dem's? send exp forces

I think your ideas sound pretty good.

It depends of course on the UK player playing along.

I like to build Inf-AT and try to get up to 90mm AT guns. Along with forts along the Belgian border and forts in the Rouen-Nancy line behind this, maybe the Inf-AT can blunt the imminent German Armor spearhead.

Also, forts and mountain troops bordering Italy can stop a force many times their numerical superior.

I also figure you might as well ship the troops in N. Africa and Vietnam home. These troops cannot hold out against much of an attack, and so they might as well die defending the homeland. If you spend IC reinforcing these areas, then you weaken France proper, and then it all falls.

The idea in North Africa would be to crush the Italians w/ the British and then ship the troops home (assuming Italians join the war). How many french troops are there in Indochina? It seems like such a hastle to ship them home.

one more thing: if neccesary, prepare for "dunkirk" - i.e. evac if the Germs are overrunning you

I agree Diefledermas.

One of the better moves I've seen pursued by a French player, is knowing when to call it quits in France. I gobbled up the mainland after smashing through their defences, and then found that nearly all the French army escaped to the UK to fight on...

-not that that stopped Sealion of course :)

oh, get deGualle out of Indochina and over to France

Other question about playing with France: After you move your troops in 1939-scenario (min. one div.), do all troops have only 19 points org.level? Although 38 points before? I'm asking, because it's seem to be a bug in my HoI (v 1.05).

I have the same problem by playing Poland and CZE.
