Stupid question?

This is my first post so please be gentle with me if I´m doing this wrong!
My question is simple but I can´t find it answerd anywhere on the list so here goes:
Should I have to run the CD every time I start the game? I have heard from friends that they just installed the game as is and run it without inserting tha CD every time they start up but I´m recuested to do so. It still works but It´s a bit anoying to have to get it out of the box and into the CD-reder every time. Is there something I´ve neglected to do or what?

Patches fixed it!

I upgraded with the 1.05, 1.05c, C.O.R.E v. 0.6 and v 0.62 and now it workes just fine! Don´t know which patch that did it (none of the upgrade-lists I read said anything about fixing this), but one of them did. Anyone out there with the same problem now or in the future - upgrade!
