It doesn't sit well with me that, when integrating a subject state, the 3 families you're permitted to give sanctuary to are automatically trimmed to having just 2 members.
Not lucky enough to be chosen as one of those 6 individuals? Death! Men, Women, Children, all keel over & die on the day you integrate their state.

Wealth, popularity, power base, skills, all count for nought; the heads of 3 families (typically 60+ y/o geriatrics) plus one other is the most you get.

p.s.
I'm fully aware that in this case 'Dead' actually means 'Disappeared into obscurity'.
Still doesn't feel very satisfying.

Yeah, imagine my disappointment when I conquered Egypt and wanted to preserve Lagid dynasty. All I got was 3 old gramps.

Also I think minor characters should pass on their dynasty name. It's sad to see how descendants of great dynasty are simple lowborns without surname.

I'd like an option to "Banish into obscurity" some of the really poor stat minor characters to make room in the character pool for more children or more characters taken in integration or capture. Think the issue here is that the character pool gets too big which causes performance issues.

You would think with all the AI bobbing in 2.0 that the number of characters across the world falls by a decent amount now. Would be good to hear from the Devs on that, iirc it is something they keep tabs on during their AI only runs.

And just preventing the AI from integrating other families and leaving only the player with this option is totally possible....
Besides that the game could well reduce the size of the existing families a little, after all, the new integrated members will probably occupy some government positions and gain prominence...

The options when you conquer a territory really do need updating. It seems all of them basically do the same thing - cause culture unhappiness, and -0.5 to aggressive expansion. There needs to be greater variety. Including something that increases happiness - for example, guarantee autonomy to X culture (which would provide increased happiness at a cost of output).

About the families specifically, it's just basically ridiculous that you get 1 character whose stats you can see and another random character who you can't know about. And the impact to you is about popularity. That's it?

If you annex them diplomatically, the response and options should be different than annexing them militarily. The maluses should be smaller and you should be able to bring in more of the subject's characters.

And on a separate but related topic, AFAIK the characters don't remarry or reproduce, meaning annexations basically end families following the death of the sole surviving head of the family.

Yes, it is annoying. This system of large and small families really need some rework. I was playing with Rome and seeing one of the ruling families from another Italian state, which I planned to attack, to my surprise it had my name! It was "Plinius", like of Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger. My name is Plínio, it is the translation of "Plinius" in Portuguese. I immediately conquered them and housed the family. To my surprise, only two adult men were allowed to live. They had women and children. They were all killed.

A question a bit off topic, is it possible for a character to change his culture? I wanted one of the two to change the culture to Roman, but I believe there is no way, right?
