In the developer diary on units it was noted that SLBM-capable submarines will not be included in the game. Is this because of the nuclear capability? If so I think that such units could still be intergrated into the game by replacing nuclear warheads with some sort of MIRVed High-Explosive warhead. Because come on, who doesn't want to be in command of the mighty Typhoon or Borei class submarine?

Hi and welcome Rockeye,

Sure, that would be great. However, I don't know of any such weapons, and we stick with existing, or at least realistically projected and planned, platforms and weapons in this first version of the game.

We do have the converted Ohio, as you've probably noticed.

We're absolutely open for adding more speculative future units in an update/game/DLC.

There will be loads of cool subs to work with!

Yes SLBMs wouldnt benefit the game, but however think of all the scenarios you could create with SSBNs!
I think SSBNs should be included/modded in the game but I think that could wait until after the game launch (DLC,Unit pack, Naval War: Pacfic)?

Well you said about the converted Ohio class submarines. I heard some where that the 2 reserve Typhoon submarines may receive a similar conversion and become SSGNs. Could these possibly be included in the game?

If there is anything Typhoon should be converted to, it is a luxury submersible cruise ship. I mean honestly it already has a small swimming pool and sauna. Just expand on that concept and see how many people would be willing to get a ticket for the largest sub in the world ;)

The unit list for NWAC is really closed, but obviously we'll want to make DLCs, expansions, and no end to bigger, better versions of NW in the future. Just convince enough people to buy it, and we will not stop making new stuff until we friggin retire!

You're only allowed to retire once you have trained a team as good as you to take your place :p.

EDIT:

One that doesn't sell themselves to the devil that is EA.

EDIT2:

God how I hate Bioware for doing that....fools

Will you give the Ohio SSGNs Tomahawks anti-ship capability (I think Nimitz said that the currently used missiles cant attack ships) or will you mount another missile or make it modular?

It would be such a shame to have this awesome sub but no anti-ship capability :p

The anti-ship capability was a proposed upgrade, and alternative to the LRASM. I highly doubt that the Department of Defense will go for an upgrade to a slow, large cruise missile when Raytheon is in the testing phase for a small, supersonic dedicated anti-ship missile.

Yeah, we're including something we'll call the LRASM even though its specs are very unfinished. With the west having mostly Harpoons it could make for a rather unbalanced game against Shipwrecks and the BrahMos.

I am just worrying that the LRASM and its Russian LR counterpart makes it a bit too easy sometimes...

Well its your job to balance things out isnt it?

I guess that a lot of the gameplay will be centered around preventing the enemy from launching his LR missiles at you so it will probably work out.

And you cant launch LSRAMs and Shipwrecks at Submarines (but Klubs).

Meh! The Shipwreck will be LONG retired by 2030. The Kirov will use a similar system to the NATO Mk. 41 VLS, and its primary anti-ship weapon will be the extended range onyx.

Any missile is very subject to jamming/decoys once the primary sensor provider has been knocked out. Also while the speed of missiles is impressive the response time of modern SAM's is equally impresive. I hope you are aware of that?

Speed may sound like a massive barrier but ultimately it is the anti-jammer technology, the stealth/evasion capabilities and the targets radar lock that are the big players in a missile engagement.

SAMPSON/ASTER would probably knock out a missile traveling 5x the speed of sound as easily as one travelling 3x the speed of sound.

It is when a missile is close to the sea that it becomes harder, or of course when there are 30 of those missiles... In that same respect though Sea Viper can rippled fire 10 Aster missiles in 8 seconds. Coupled with the ability to keep the missiles "in the basket" and the range and power of Sampson it is going to take more than even 8-10 Bharmos to definitely kill off a Type 45 that is aware of the threat axis.

Of course if you are engaged unprepared, without knowledge and from an unexpected threat axis then no amount of technology will save you and the opponent will probably be able to sink you with even an old WW2 torpedo because of the advantage that surprise and stealth can provide in the naval game.

you would notice that
1) Aster needs radar track data for corrections and later lock on
2) Most missiles use sea skimming flight profile and are supersonic
3) Radars cant see beyond the horizon
4) As a 2 stage missile it has a large dead zone
5) Sam systems cannot work all the time - there are power hungry and have limited work-time before maintenance.
Ie
1) There can be surprise with missile coming over horizon, with need to warm up the sam before it can be used
2) Even if sam is fully ready it would take time to track, generate orders and so on
3) Due to large dead zone, nature of target, any such system would have small amount of time to work, reducing its effect by a lot.
