Hey guys

I've been reading alot about the wars of the roses recently and it gave me an idea for CK2! Please feel free to shoot me down if its unworkable or someone has already posted it.

In order to replicate a greater feel for factional politics in the medieval age I think it should be more straightforward for the player to create a claim to the throne.

Basically my idea is for a claim to the throne once the player has met certain conditions. Obviously the character must be descended from the monarch and he must be a direct vassal of the King and perhaps he must have accumulated so much wealth or territory or titles. Once this character has met the required criteria then he can launch a claim to the throne! Once he has made this claim all other vassals of the King will then have an event fired which makes them choose to support the true King or the pretender.

This would allow for events such as the hundred years war or war of the roses where the main characters were supported by powerful nobles and would not have got far without them. Such as Edward IV and Warwick or Henry V and Burgundy or Henry VI and Somerset.

This will also force Kings to pay much more attention to their extended family and ensure that all vassals and not just the powerful ones are onside. It will also allow players to build up a smaller title and with a bit of clever marrying can claim a Kingdom!!!

In CK1 you can get claims using your honor, something very unreal from my point of view, there should be a new claim system that allows a realist claim fabrication.

I like the idea and hope something along these lines will exist. Civil wars seem far preferable to endless whack-a-mole that realm duress currently is. I would suggest two things. First is not limiting it to direct vassals of the king. Civil wars could start with a foreign power claiming the throne, and should definitely be possible. Second vassals should get the option of changing sides/making peace either through periodic events or after battles their side loses.

I think it would definitely be more realistic (and fun) to have the vassals lining up behind different claimants to the throne. And I'm also dissatisfied with the expend prestige to get claims mechanic. I think the only time that should work if you have no hereditary claim is if you've already captured the province in war. Things like insults, rivalries, heresy or excommunication should enable you to declare war, but you wouldn't actually get claims on their titles without a prestige hit.

If you do have are in the succession line for a particular title, you should be able to grab the claim with a prestige hit...the farther down you are in the succession, the bigger that hit should be.

Wasn't this already done in CKDV?

As I said, if this is already done then so much the better. It just seems that vassals leaving their monarch have no other support mechanism and other claimants to the throne have no chance unless they already own more territory and men than both the King and all his remaining vassals combined.

I should be possible as a player to choose who is a more advantageous monarch for you. Also if your married into the current royal family it is more more worthwhile for you to try and keep the current King in place as you have a chance of succeeding etc.
