You could try looking through the save file and see if you can find anything obviously wrong. You may also have some luck by asking in the editing forum if anyone knows the common causes of corupted saves. That might give you an idea of what to look for.

You may also want to think back to any events that happened before the saves stoped working, as that also might give you a clue on what to look for.

Sorry that is all the advice I have.

Did it give you an error message or did it just crash?

What that means is that the game got corrupted before the autosaves.

So what I meant by thinking about what was going on in the game, was what was going on before your EARLIEST save (including autosaves) that do not work.

Something obviously was wrong. ;)

So I was saying what was going on, ie events, battles ...

It is not your last save though it is the earliest one that does not work, Probably your autosave.

So you can look at province numbers of one you just annexed, around that time.

Sorry I am not making myself clear.
It is NOT the LAST save!
It is the FIRST (earliest) save that does not load.

Okay, here is what happens, at some point in your game something happens that was not supposed to happen, (an event went bad or taken provences were not distributed to the new owner correctly ...) Whatever. THen sometime after that maybe you save the game and continue to play. That save will contain the bad data. You continue to play, and the game autosaves at some point. (that save will be bad), you continue to play and save the game again. (that save will be bad).

However what was happening when you saved the game the last time, does not matter, since the game became corrupt much earlier, and any save after the corruption will be corrupt.

That is why you want to look back to what was going on when the first save (chronologically) that does not work was saved.

No problem, good luck with CORE!
