I think it would be cool to have another form of long range item and colonist transport other than shuttles and RC transports.
That new form of transportation would be trains.

Here are some ideas on how they might work:
You build train tracks, similar to cables or pipes, with track switches and all, and then you can place train stations anywhere on those tracks and once you have placed two or more along one set of tracks, a train will spawn on those tracks and is now ready to transport colonists and resources.
When you select a train station you can set which resources it will load or unload to and from the train, allowing you to set up permanent transfer routes unlike the RC transport ones which are deleted when there are no more resources to be picked up.
The train stations have a radius similar to domes and if a dome is inside that radius, colonists can take the train to go to other train stations. At that point they can access any domes and outside buildings within the radius of another station along that track without having to resettle across the map.
The train only requires power to function, but I imagine it to be relatively expensive to research and build.
I think it would be a late game thing so you have to use shuttles in the early/mid game until you can unlock and build trains.
They can carry much more colonists and cargo than shuttles, but they are slower and can only go along the tracks (duh), so they aren't just an outright replacement for shuttles.
The train has a single passenger cart and two cargo carts, but maybe it has an upgrade that adds further carts or increases the carts' carrying cpacity.
Also, the train tracks can transfer power but not life support and they automatically change into train tunnels (that function similarly to regular tunnels except they are for train tracks only), when they have to overcome large changes in elevation.

Please tell me what you think of this idea and what you would improve about this concept.
