To easily find a nearby shipyard it would be useful to have a small icon like the U for FTL inhibitors next to a Starbase icon.

You're probably intended to use the outliner to find shipyards, since they're kept separate from regular starbases. But your idea has merit IMO.

But using the outliner means to hit left stick to find it and the go back search where you were to find the nearest one. It's frustrating.
You're right, I was speaking only from PC experience, it did not occur to me that things would be more obtuse on console. I had assumed there would be UI/UX QoL improvements specific to the console version but I guess not.
It has some improvements like the radial menu. But there could be more.
