Game won't start at all since about a week ago. Before that, it was fully playable (except for slight graphic bugs as described otherwere). Sonoma 14.4.1, M1 max.
Tried some rebooting, reinstalling, verifying game files etc.

Can you replicate the issue?
Yes.
It happens at each launch attempt.

The game has not changed for years. Did this happen just after a MacOS update perhaps?

Can we get the actual full text of that crash report please? As a text file if possible.

Illegal Instruction, goodness me! We know the game does not have any or no one could run it ... not really sure what could be causing that for you.

What I'd suggest is a full clean reinstall of the game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere; they are under
~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/{large number}/
- "uninstall" in Steam-Surviving Mars
- manually delete both the ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Surviving Mars AND ~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/ folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new colony, NOT any existing one

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam SM or Application Support SM locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

Thanks,
Doing that still gives me the same result:
Application Specific Information:
Invalid view geometry: height is NaN

Do we know if more Mac users are having similar issues?

(Small sidenote: my files were under "*/steamapps/", not "*/SteamApps".)

Actually, you've just reminded me of this thread from 2 years ago:

There Apple admitted the issue was with them, and some people said there the issue was fixed in 14.1.2 so I thought this was over. How it has suddenly happened to you with no change in MacOS or the game I do not know!

Post #38 has a very curious workaround for the problem, I wonder if that helps you too?

Oh, that is an interesting way of telling the game to try again :)
Well, I used a zsh-script to try a thousand times (literally), but so far no luck. (Disabled automatic error reporting to Apple in system preferences first for sanity.)

I should clarify that i don't recall any MacOS updates, that does not necessarily mean that there were none. :)

Maybe I'll just wait for Sonoma 14.4.2 or equivalent...
