Tales of a Forgotten Planet
On January 1st, 1936, something very peculiar happened. Someone by the name of DZKRT01 took command of the Netherlands. The Dutch didn't seem to mind. DZKRT01 was a determined lad, determined to live a long prosperous life and lead the Dutch to glorious victory. He almost succeeded.
DZKRT01 began his quest that fateful winter day in January of '36 by hitting his head on the top bunk of his bed.
DZKRT01: "Owwwwwwwww!!!!"
Apparently, it hurt.
DZKRT01: "Oh, for the love of... why do I even have a bunk bed?!"
Rubbing his head, he walked out and assumed command of the Netherlands.
DZKRT01: "Thank you, I'll take that."
For the next year, he asked the United Kingdom almost weekly to let he and the Dutch into the Alliance. The UK repeatedly said no.
UK: "No."
DZKRT01 found that the Dutch were good at making submarines. So he made them. First, he spent a few years researching them so he could have the marvelous O21 class medium submarine. 'Tis a good class.
He began construction of 4 Transports in order to get the Dutch infantry out of Europe in the case of being overrun by irate Germans.
After his transports were completed and his research was finished, DZKRT01 began working on 6 O21 class subs. They would prove invaluable in the future.
Then, in 1938, something surprising happened. The UK asked the Dutch to join the Alliance.
UK: "Oh, please! Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top! Join our wonderful Alliance!"
DZKRT01 thought long and hard and then answered.
DZKRT01: "Ok."
This decision gave the Dutch new technologies. Using one of the new technologies, Basic Warship Design, DZKRT01 researched new destroyers. After he had researched the new class, he built 4 of them.
The Dutch fleets were complete, and were as follows:
Dutch Fleet: 9 surface ships, CAs and DDs.
Dutch Transport Fleet: 8 Transports.
1e, 2e, and 3e Onderzeeboot Smaldeels: 3 O21 sub squadrons.
4e, 5e, and 6e Onderzeeboot Smaldeels: 3 O21 sub squadrons.
This complimented the wonderful 11 Division army. All infantry. 3 of which were in the Indies.
The air force was, sadly, non-existant.
In 1939, the UK guaranteed Poland's independence even though Germany left the Czechs alone. Germany then declared war on the Allies.
Unfortunately, the Germans decided to invade the Netherlands immediately. DZKRT01 thought fast and decided to start transporting the surplus resources stockpiled in Amsterdam to the Dutch colonies. This tactic was able to save much of his resources from falling into German hands.
In a few weeks, the Netherlands fell and the Dutch Fleet and Army retreated to Britain. From there, the Dutch would stage many operations.
A few failed invasions trying to retake the Netherlands.
A briefly successful invasion in Denmark.
Destruction of German convoys.
Assistance to Norway in removing Germans and Finns from Norwegian territory.
Another successful invasion of Denmark. This was a joint British/Dutch operation.
In mid 1941, the Dutch Army was stationed in northern Denmark. DZKRT01 was still stationed safely in Britain. The Balkans had fallen to the Russians and then quickly reclaimed by the Germans. The Finns were quickly falling to the Russians and the Germans were almost on Leningrad's and Moscow's doorsteps.
It was at this time that the fateful battle began. The British launched a 1 division attack on Lille. It soon became a 2 division attack, followed by a 3rd division. At this time, DZKRT01 could not ignore it any longer, this was his chance! The 8 Infantry divisions of the Dutch Army loaded up and set sail for Lille. They landed in time and the now 11 division invasion was too much for the 1 Motorized Infantry division Germany had stationed there. Lille quickly fell.
Just as DZKRT01 began his victory dance, he stopped his victory dance very abruptly.
Somewhere... above Earth... was a ship... with a Vogon captain... named Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz... sitting on a chair... in the bridge.
In the darkness of the bridge at the heart of the Vogon ship, Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz sat alone. Lights flared briefly across the external vision screens that lined one wall. In the air above him the discontinuities in the blue and green watery sausage shape resolved themselves. Options collapsed, possibilities folded into each other, and the whole at last resolved itself out of existence.
A very deep darkness descended. The Vogon captain sat immersed in it for a few seconds.
"Light" he said.
There was no response. The bird, too, had crumpled out of all possibility.
The Vogon turned on the light himself. He picked up the piece of paper again and placed a little tick in the little box. Well, that was done. His ship slunk off into the inky void.
