Edit: I discovered that what happened was the massive, insane imbalance between having a popular anti-pope and an unpopular anti-pope.

There seems to be a massive discrepancy between what my demense reports it produces and what the game says my personal wealth is gaining.

I'll provide screenshots and a save file when I get a chance in about 6 hours, but right now I have 9 holdings that claim to produce 8-12 gold each, yet the game says my personal wealth is increasing by +27 or so (with 25 spent on expenses, for a net gain of 2).

For a long time I was gaining what seemed like an appropriate amount, but my income dropped precipitously and I can't see why, anywhere.

The holdings I'm talking about are all my personal holdings, not held by vassals, and are have been held by the same character for years. No big stat changes have happened.

Is this a known bug? I couldn't find a thread. Or is there some serious source of hidden costs not visible, not explained in a tooltip, not in the manual?

Part of the problem here is that the game does an incredibly poor job of explaining why I'm making the money I'm making.

Click on the shield of your primary title, there you'll have a budget breakdown.
I guess you're confusing yearly with monthly gains.

To expand on this:
The only time you actually see a monthly breakdown is the tooltip when you hover over the money you have in the upper right corner of the screen.
Those holdings for example give you 12 gold yearly.

You're absolutely right.

The real problem was my antipope. For years, he had been very popular and so every single catholic bishop was paying taxes to him!

Now he's not as popular anymore, so I lost ~400 gold a year.

Since that might be the single most important factor affecting my kingdom right now, maybe the game should have given me a little heads-up? "Hey, 2/3rd of your income just disappeared because your anti-pope is less popular than the new pope."
