Hi All,

Just a question about tech levels. I am playing England in the GC, 1st time. It is 1605 and my corresponding tech levels are

Army:10
Navy:9
Trade:5
Infra:5

Is this at a reasonable level? I checked out the othe major countries and they appear to be behind by 1 step in every category. But i checked on the euprovince page and I appear to be behind in according to the tables. I realize that the tables are probably just a rule of thumb, but according to the tables I am way behind.

Also why am I losing battles, ie...
Drake who has great numbers 6/5/5 and an armada of 67 warships lost to 4 Tunisian or Algerian warships. My morale was high and the battle was right off the coast of Wessex. What gives?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

tech costs

The technology costs were modified substantially in patches (don't know exactly in which). So it depends on the game version you play. You can also look to savefile and compare with tech levels of minor countries which often tend to have higher techs.

average dates for tech

One more idea:

If you look to files land.csv and naval.csv you can see these techs stats including the average date to reach. In latest patch your research is even penalized if you are too ahead compared to that date.

I was curious if it seemed slow

According to the EUprovince page it seemed slow. Unless my economy really kicks in it appears that I won't max out any tech levels.

Just because I am ahead of the major countries doesn't mean that I am playing it correctly. I would hope that a human would / could / should always be ahead of the AI.

Thanks for your input.

Yeah, but these dates are from the .csv-files. They've made research go quite a bit slower in 1.08 (i think so, at least it's slower for me...) so these dates should maybe be taken with a pinch of salt...
