I haven't had too much trouble following the new tech trees.... until now

I'm playing as Hungry and I can't figure out how to research 1930's electronics on the industrial page, sorta important if I'm going to have any decryption/encryption, atomic, rocket, advanced research, etc...

Also, I can't figure out how to research any of the 'army ability' discoverys. the ones where I can have quaility, quanity, or reliability. None of the three have been prechoosen, is there a way I can research any of them? are there prerequisites I'm missing somewhere?

Hungary is a Fully Industrialized country, right? There's an error in the industry tech tree that prevents Fully Industrialized countries from researching 1930 Electronics (though later electronics are available if you just get 1930).

As for the Quality/Quantity/Reliability - no this is intentional, either you have one of these or you do not. They are not researchable in-game and, I guess, might as well be hidden to avoid confusion (something for me to consider for next release).

Let me know if you want to fix the 1930 Electronics thing for Hungary on your own (it will work with save games).

Thanks for clearing that up! was starting to worry. Once you told me there was a bug I just editted the tech file to get rid of the prerequite for 1930's electronics (5220 I think) everythings back to normal now. Now that I've got the quick fix out of the way... what's the proper fix? :)

That's what I was guessing, so having them there was confusing. But the effects do need to be shown somewhere for the countries that get them. Can you still have them on the chart, but have all of them deactivated (the big red X) for the countries that don't have one?

oh btw... the air force is starting to get a little confusion now also. I'm trying to get TACs (starting off the foreign purchase route) and I don't see a clear path here. Any clearification on what I should research to get TACs? (so far I've got 1920's and '30's aviation but that's about it, am working my way to an independent air arm in air doctrines if that makes a differnece) thnx agian for the help.

PSS. ugh.. just thought of another question/clearification. Partisan Activity, does it decrease over time like in earlier versions of HOI2 or does it increase like in the latest patches. Mine seems to be decreasing so I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that's the case.

The proper fix is to replace the "required" field in there with:
Code:
or_required = { 5220 5230 }
(This is from memory, but I think it's correct)

This allows 1930 Electronics to be researched by both Semi-Industrialized and Fully Industrialized nations.

With the Foreign Purchase scheme I think you may have to go a certain way along the Air Missions techs on the Air Doctrines page.

No Bombers for Hungary!

Back to the TAC question...

I'm much further along in the game now and I really don't see anyway for a minor nation (ie Hungary) to ever get any typr of bomber.

Hungry starts out the Foreign Purchase route for Planes and as Minor airforce with doctrines. I changed over to a army controled air force in doctrines (I wanted CAS and TAC) researched a majority of those doctrines then switched doctrines to an independent air branch. Nothing along these lines (or radar) opens up any way to build/reasearch any type of bomber. There should probably be a way for the Foriegn purchase to switch over to the Conversion route (or military design route) at least for human players, I'm going to be seriously annoyed if my Hungarian empire can never have any type of bomber. :D

btw... I know the reasoning why ya'll split up the army-controled air force doctrines and the independent-air arm doctrines, but it strikes me as sorta.... odd... that I can research a majority of the air-army doctrines to improve my CAS and then switch over to an independent-air arm and keep all the bonuses/doctrines from the army-air branch. Personally I would like to see these mutually excluive, then merge back together later for the high end doctrines.

You can get real bombers as a minor, such as Hungary. I played a long game as Hungary and managed it. You just haven't researched correctly.

(Spoiler: Keep researching the Air Missions, but beware that the Aviation Industry techs close these down as they are mutually exclusive. If, however, your research has already close the Air Missions you might've ended up in a dead-end - I'll have to take a look at things to see if this can be countered somehow, without providing an exploit.)

Also, regarding the split between Army and Independent - the thing is that you are way behind if you research all Army first and then switch, that's the balancing factor. I hope research becomes slightly more time-consuming which will make this a bigger issue still.
