In my current game (GC as France on normal/normal setting) I have completely exhausted the tech tree. I have no alternative than to let all monthly income (some 700d per month) flow into my treasury, causing 100% inflation. I have money coming out of my ears, and the year is only 1680.

Quite apart from arguments that I should play at harder levels (true), I find this situation really discomforting. It is no fun to be penalised for having done too much too quickly (i.e. research) and end up having 100% inflation after a game with average inflation close to 0%.

The situation came about mainly because I had uncontested monopolies in Detroit, Malacca, Karoo, Tahiti (covering 3 provinces!) for most of the game with Mexico added to the list in 1660. The trading AI could do with some enhacements here... On top of that I controlled COTs at Paris, Flanders, Andalusia, and India. So yes, the techs just kept flowing in.

Would it be possible to:
- change the cost of techs in a text file. If so, which file would it be?
- add the equivalant of Civ's Future Tech (worth some VPs) to (say) the infrastructure tree?

have a good day

I would prefer a MOO style set of future techs that increase your tech, but at a much reduced and declining level. Or even just extend the techs to like 200 levels with the usual levels of gain, but that might skew the game unrealistically. I also agree that techs maybe should have increased cost (an option, like in Alpha Centauri--> Tech Stagnation).

I would promote your mayors to govenors as they work against inflation. in my GC as england i have a huge empire, tech tree exhausted and a yearly income of 900d+ and inflation still 0% bacause i have a govenour in EVERY city and that means everywhere. upgrade all colonies to cities and place a govenour a you'll do splendid :)

CC, maybe I was too quick when abandoning the France game. I have not actually *seen* the rampant inflation I was referring to in my original post, rather I (wrongly?) assumed that inflation would be the result if I take monthly income in cash. Must try it. And - btw - I have done all promotions whereever and whenever I coult.

Thanks for the input, I might reactivate that game...
