Im quite new to EU2 but I did modded a few other Paradox games before.

I'd like to mod something for a fantasy idea I may eventually turn into an AAR...

Lets say I want to give the Aztec Empire the same (or almost) technological speed as France, Spain, Austria?... Is it do-able?

How could I manage this? What come to my mind is than I could write an event than would switch my techgroup to 'latin' or 'orthodox'. But as I know very little about EU2 event modding ang game mechanics... I'd need advices. :(
 
Yeah you could make events or just edit in the savegame.

For an event you should add commands like these:

command = { type = technology which = torthodox}

That was for orthodox tech amd:

command = { type = technology which = latin }

for latin tech.

Now you also should cahnge your religion to Catholic or something to get rid of some nasty things and then you even get some bonuses. :) Protestant is the ideal religion to convert to IIRC.
 
There's still the isolation penalty and the whiteman penalty. The fewer other countries you know of, the greater the isolation penalty, with the penalty disappearing entirely if you know of 19 or more countries. You'll have to give the Aztecs knowledge of the capitals of sufficient countries to eliminate the penalty. I don't know offhand how to edit out the whiteman penalty (which is severe), and I don't have the game on this computer. Perhaps someone else can explain it.
 
You can edit the whiteman in either the scenario .inc file or in the savegame, but not in an event. In the savegame, each country already has a line "whiteman = xx"; you'd just bump the Aztecs up to 5 or more (IIRC 5 is the max). In the scenario .inc file, you just add a line like I described into the country definition somewhere (it doesn't matter where).
 
Thanks, all this will be very usefull to me.

However regarding the religion- is there a way to remove the pagan penalty without converting to any other religion (protestants Aztecs does not sound right)?
