Hi all.

I have seen countless posts about issues regarding technology and not being able to get the power core tech you need. It is not bugged, you just need the right scientist's in your research. For powercores try using a scientist with an industry triat, this will give a higher chance for power core techs to appear. This similarly applies to all technologies with various scientist with specific traits having a higher chance to roll for the techs you want.

I made a tutorial on this so everyone can see just how involved the tech tree actually is and what YOU can do to influence the techs you want and need.

I made a video to address this very comment and many others I had seen regarding not understanding how the research system works in Star Trek Infinite, this may help some people

I don't understand the correlation between the tech type and the researcher specialization in getting that type of tech. Is there a modifier someplace that says there is increased chances? I know if you have the same type you get a research bonus while researching it but how do you know there is a better chance of getting same type techs?

If this actually works it represents yet another important gameplay mechanic that isn't explained anywhere. But regardless of that, I don't think it should work like this, because it makes the acquisition of critically important early technologies reliant on two RNGs -- getting a researcher with the right bonus, then getting the right tech roll soon enough to matter.

This mechanic is straight from Stellaris, and it isn't explained in-game there either. Assuming they changed nothing about it, there is a 25% higher chance of techs matching your scientist's expertise showing up every draw.

As an example. If you want to get an upgraded power core tech so you have more power for new weapons on your ships, you need to have the Industry Trait on your scientist. This will likely give you a 1.25 higher chance of that tech appearing in your tech roll. This is not confirmed as we don't yet have access to this information, so the actual number could be different. However, all the scientists' traits are exactly the same as in Stellaris with their scientists and techs. Stellaris traits give you a 1.25 improved chance of a tech appearing if you use the same trait on your scientist as what the tech has.

I have tested it myself in game, had other players test it and it works. You can play the game for hours trying to get the right tech, but then change the scientists to the correct trait that matches the tech you want and within 1-3 techs, you get it.

As I explain in my video, there are likely many more variables from having access to certain strategic resources, other techs first, even the civics and traditions you pick could influence what techs will appear in your tech roll. We just don't know what the figures are until we can access a tech tree to see it all. Just try it yourself, load up a save and have a look through the techs you really want earlier, note down the traits and try to get those scientists early in a new game and see if it improves your techs, the ones you want.

You can also use the console command by pressing ` then type in research_all_technologies which will give you every tech in the game, you can look through them all and see all the traits for techs you want sooner that suits your style of play.

Interesting, I knew you got the tech research bonus but I did not know Stellaris has the 1.25.

Interesting, I knew you got the tech research bonus, but I did not know Stellaris has the 1.25.
Stellaris also has other modifiers as well, such as 0.0 chance of it appearing if you don't have a specific resource (strategic resource) within your empire and mining it. It also has bonuses for certain civics that give a tech 2.5 times the chance of appearing. Traditions can also impact it as well. So, until we see a tech tree and can see the figures for the techs, we won't know the specifics.

In my video I also explain how you need to have researched 6 x tier 1 techs first, then you will start to see tier 2 techs appear. In stellaris some techs that you want which are Tier 1, but they are gated behind first getting a tier 2 tech. So, you need to research 6 x tier 1 techs first, then you can get the tier 2 tech, which is also gated by needing a strategic resource, then and only then will you have the option to roll for this tier 1 tech.

So, you can see how it can get complicated and not just a simple random tech roll, some people might not get a tech they want for decades as they dont meant the requirements, but they don't know what the requirements are.
