One of the things I felt was lacking in EU3 was the immersiveness of technological progress. While the system's automatization worked very well it also made it very abstract.Adding something like V2's inventions would make it come more alive. Certain tech levels would activate certain inventions, which like V2 would then have a certain chance of being invented each day. The chance could be increased or reduced based on several variables. Having a leader who is very militaristic and fighting a war would make inventing the arquebus more likely, while a moving printing press would be less likely to be discovered in a country with a closed society and the Muslim religion (religious leaders weren't very excited about moving type). Each invention would have a text explaining what it is and why it's important, displayed upon inventing it.
Ideally these inventions would be viewable on some sort of timeline à la Civilization. You'd be able to see what tech level activate what inventions. I think it'll make the game more accessible if people know what famous technologies you get from what tech category and when.
