When I get a new level in land military technology, I read that my soldiers will fight better. But how much better is not clear.
Is there some rule of thumb, indicating how much better my armies will fight ? Maybe there is some percentage per level. Something like: when I attack a country with one level higher, I need x% more troops.

Nope. One tech level really isn't that much. Leaders, terrain and so on are equally important unless u have a huge tech gap. Certain tech levels give special new advances which u can see when u hover over the "?" in the tech bar. Morale is more important than tech though u can increase morale by tech.

You can probably work it out by trolling the game files, but I really can't be bothered. Like BiB said, the odd level here or there makes effectively no difference.

It may be that Huszics has the precise mods on his FAQ site. It's full of boring crap like that :D

You've just entered the Baroque era while P-L is in the Movement era. They have a 30% advantage in infantry Fire value and 40% in infantry shock. Their cavalry has a 5% advantage in shock.

More significantly, their cannon are Fire 400 to your 250 and Shock 47.5 to your 30.

Morale is 3.5 for you and 4 for them and they have some siege benefits (5% additional casaulties).

Finally, unless you're playing a human then enemy force is controlled by an artificial idiot and will wither away within months. You probably don't need to meet them in battle to make this happen. Go for it! :)

Steel

EDIT: Corrected cavalry shock advantage.

It shouldn't, I agree. Except sometimes, for no apparent reason, it seems to. These days I'm wary of engaging anyone with even a couple of levels advantage on me without overwhelming numbers.......and I run away from leader led armies..........:D

I believe it is all explained in Huszic's FAQ site. Also, Huszic's has a link to a site where the specifics of each tech level are explained (as I recall).

Save games do not contain any significant information about this. The ..\db\combat folder has stuff, but it is really useless without a frame of reference, which I think is addressed by the sites I have mentioned.
